5.0 out of 5 stars People that buy Stump's CDs & then complain are idiots., October 28, 2002

This review is from: 2001: A Shred Odyssey (Audio CD)
Of course they're all non stop 80's style shredding from start to finish.Calling Stump an Yngwie clone is inaccurate, silly, & shows a serious lack of knowledge of the genre. If Stump is ripping from anyone it's Blackmore, not Yngwie. I've been playing for over 15 years & have been a shred junkie since the early 80's. I'm well versed in Yngwie & all the other usual suspects of the shred/neoclassical gengres. Stump has his own sound & style that is waaay more blues based than anything Yngwie does. If you like shred you'll love this CD. It rocks from the first track to the last, not a bad song in the bunch. You're tone deaf if you can't hear the emotion & passion in Stump's playing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read well if you do not know JOE STUMP !, June 27, 2002

I will try to be short and clear about his "intermezzo"-album: you can hear different kind of feelings in the songs of JOE, and you will find out what him makes standing at 1°place-ranking above other guitarists like; Malmsteen,Satriani,V.Moore,Macalpine and others- for example: Malmsteen has the speed,Satriani has the technique,Moore has the feelings,Macalpine has the rhytm, others make music and try to play. JOE STUMP has it all!!! It takes your breath, makes you thrill, and you do not believe your ears and skin!!!!! This album is not his verry-best, but excellent to meet him! Also buy his other albums: 4°,3°,1° and 2°. Try to find his 3 unofficial other albums too: "GUITAR MASTER" is the best! If you really like excellent-clean (metal)guitar instrumentals with sensitive, speed, incredible technique, good songs, JOE STUMP is your hero!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Like Malmsteen, You'll Love This!, April 26, 2009
I had never heard of this guy until I was listening to Pandora Radio and he came on. I immediately thought it was Malmsteen until I realized his tone was a lot better. To address the review before, yes, he very much is Malmsteen, but more melodic. (Even the font on his album cover is the exact font Malmsteen uses on the covers of his albums) I have been playing for 10+ years and have been influenced by Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen, Jason Becker, Dream Theater, Dokken, Paul Gilbert, etc so I know my shred. I think Stump sets right up there with them. He's got chops and although he doesn't break the speed barrier set by King Malmsteen, he gives him a run for his money for sure. His album "Night of the Living Shred" is also very worth checking out if you like this one. Bottom line, if you like shred and more specifically Neo-Classical style, you'll like Joe Stump; this album and others.
