This review is from: 2003 Witches' Calendar (Annuals - Witches' Calendar) (Calendar)
I have owned a Llewellyn's Witches' calendar for 4 years now, and I'm quite sure this will be an ongoing purchase. This year is described as the "Witches' Web of Magic." Not your average "calendar at a glance," this calendar is beautiful and filled with hours of Wiccan lore. You'll find warm and gorgeous glossy artwork, and hundreds of tips and hints to get you spiritually inspired to learn more. {We all need that, and references are included in the back.) Learn about prophetic dreaming, spring-cleaning, fertility, atonement, power objects, and the origin of holiday traditions. This year learn about the cauldron, which midsummer moon is the lover's moon, eventually leading to the phrase `honeymoon." When the year is done, you're not done with the calendar! Each year features different customs and festivals, and several articles follow at the back of the calendar. Some topics covered are spell-casting, familiars, the athame, and using the dark moon as a time for reflection. Articles in the back of the calendar are written by popular Llewellyn authors, such as the Gypsy (Roma) magic piece by Raymond Buckland. Give the publisher feedback on what you want in a calendar or almanac, and they offer a free book or almanac in exchange for your opinion. Llewellyn's Witches' Calendar is something you'll want to make a yearly tradition for yourself, or as a beautiful gift.

Great Planning Tool,

This is one of the better Pagan oriented calendars on the market. The artwork & articles along with daily correspondence information set this tool apart from the pack.My only criticism of the Witches' Calendar is that Llewellyn doesn't make it clear that the calendar is done in Central Time which can cause problems for the unwitting. One would think that Llewellyn would offer the Witches' Calendar in regional editions, like the Jim Maynard's Celestial Influences Calendar which has editions for each time zone. Barring that, there should be a notice somewhere on the calendar as to which time zone it is geared to.

I love this calendar, I have gotten one for the past 5 years at least. The artwork is colorful and meaningful. It is fun to see who you share a birthday with (I share one with Isaac Bonewitz), along with pagan events throughout history. I use it to help me garden by the moon and plan rituals. I make use of the artwork once the year is done by framing it or making greeting cards. Some of the articles are a bit fluff bunny, ignoring the balance of light and dark, but other than that I recommend it for pagans and witches.

I have gotten one of these every year for the past 5 years at least, and the artwork is beautiful! It is fun to see who shares your birthday (Isaac Bonewitz), and the miscellaneous pagan facts. I use it to help me garden by the moon and plan rituals. I frame the calendar art or use it for greeting cards. The articles do tend to be very "Fluff Bunny", ignoring the balance of light and dark that is in the craft, but other than that it is a great reference.
