Product Description

Model MFM SOLO # 7121 These specially designed toe straps tighten over the front of the toes and cups them like a chin strap on a football helmet. This concept pulls the boot back into the heelcup and elimates heel lift. Team rider Justin Hebbel started this trend a few years back and Mark Franc liked the idea so much he added it to his pro model. These should fit all Technines and most other snowboard bindings. Kit includes: 2 Toe Baltimore straps w/ Metal ratchets. 2 Ladder Straps. Mounting hardware. Lifetime warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Burton capstrap vs Technine baltimore, January 9, 2005
This review is from: New 2005 Technine Baltimore Toe Straps (Pair) (Misc.)
---Burton and Technine are the only choices for the "capstrap". Burton owns the patent and Technine has exclusive rights to it.

---I've owned the Technine since last year and recently bought the wife a pair of the Burton Lexa for christmas. We both are season passers in Utah and ride 2-5 times a week.

---When I bought mine last year I needed something that could hold up to the amout I would be using them. I had no complaint last year and still love them this year. The wife's story is much different. She was able to use the Burton's 6 times before the buckle on the "capstrap" defected. At first I thought it was a "freak" accident and knew that there couldn't be that much wear. But after getting home and looking at it, Burton seems to have used plastic for their "retaining" action on the buckle. Technine, on the other hand, used an all metal construction.

---I feel this is a major flaw with the Burton capstrap. And evenmore; Burton, being the largest of the snowboard only manuf. should have realized this in R&D, if not just used common sense. Since after all the part that takes the most consumer abuse and wear on bindings are the buckles. On, off for every run and use plastic over metal?

---I'm not out to sell anyone on Technine nor fight the obvious fact of Burton's reputation for their products. Nor do I support the Technine company BASED on their Utah connection, the wife is from VT home to Burton. I only want buyers to see this problem before they spend their hard cash on a more expensive pair of Burton, thinking they are getting better quality, when the cheaper ($) Technine have a superior construction.

---This review is based soley on the toe strap and buckle contruction. Not on the binding as a whole.

5.0 out of 5 stars Technine SOLO vs Technine PRO toe straps, November 11, 2005
This review is from: New 2005 Technine Baltimore Toe Straps (Pair) (Misc.)
We tested the Technine SOLO 2004/2005 toestraps against the 2004/2005 Technine PRO toestraps. Here is what we found. We noticed that the PRO straps fit very narrow on the cup, and may have problems on some boot styles, in particular larger boots. You will have a better chance of having a good fit with the SOLO. The SOLO straps have a larger cup which if lined up right, it should not slip off the toe. All the Technine Baltimore Toe straps have coated stainless steel screws and nuts which lock when tight. If these coated screws and nuts are used instead of your own hardware, you should not have problems with them comming loose.

Because of fitting problems with the PRO straps last year, Technine improved the PRO straps for 2006. PRO straps are more expensive in 2006 but perhaps they resolved the fitting problems. I have seen the 2006 PRO straps, but have not tested them yet.

Technine just started making the SOLO straps in WHITE. These are labeled 2006 MFM Solo straps in WHITE, but they are, in fact, the same as the high quality 2004/2004 SOLO straps.

Watch out. Dont get the older PRO straps. Get the older 2004/2005 SOLO straps, or the 2006 WHITE SOLO straps, or the new 2006 PRO straps.

Quoting other customers regarding the Technine SOLO straps:
-They sure do work and they are the shi#
-super sick
-awsome toe straps. great product!

2.0 out of 5 stars A lackluster alternative to Burton, October 12, 2005
By
Dan Callahan (Long Valley, NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: New 2005 Technine Baltimore Toe Straps (Pair) (Misc.)
*Note this review is in reference to the Technine MFM Pro Baltimore Toe Straps

I bought these last year to accompany my Drake F60s for a new setup. I recieved them in the mail on time and assumed that since it said on the Technine site that they would fit on MOST major brands of bindings, I assumed they would work on my Drakes. I was wrong. Upon recieving them, I realized that they could never work with my Drakes unless they were modified significantly. I took them to my local shop about a week later, where they modified them in about 15 minutes. I also had to replace the buckles with the Drake ones since the stock ones were plastic, while the Drake ones were metal. After all this, I finally managed to complete what I thought would be my dream 'frankenbinder', I was wrong. I mounted the bindings to my board and set my setup away for about 3 months until the start of the season.

Upon taking my board out on the hill, I noticed several significant issues which focused around my bindings and mostly the toe straps. First off, upon strapping in the bolt attaching the toe strap to the binding strap would unscrew over time and made strapping on the hill a hassle. This was my biggest worry since I constantly worried that the strap would eventually fall off and be lost forever, luckily this did not happen. Another issue I found was that while riding down the hill, the strap would ride up the toe and eventually slip into the position of a regular toe strap (over the top of the boot instead of the front). This is because the strap does not have a good fit over the toe.

Overall, I regretted purchasing these and felt they did little to assist my riding overall. I will be mounting up a pair of Burton Capstraps this season instead of these pieces of crap. Save your money and buy a better strap.
