Bleh - there's so much better!,

This review is from: 2005 Warped Tour Compilation (Audio CD)
I have been listening to the Warped Tour compilations since the 2003 discs came out. These are such a good deal for $6 bucks (price varies depending on where you buy)! However this compilation is a dissapointment.
The first CD is terrible. There are maybe 5 songs on it I can stand to listen to. That's all I have to say about it. The musical quality and overall impression of the second disc is definately much better than the first. It even includes some live songs (Selfish Man Live In L.A. - Flogging Molly). All in all, for $6-8 you'll probably end up with the 2nd CD in your CD player most of the time because 95% of the songs on the first CD just aren't worth the trouble of changing the CD to be able to listen to them. If you really want to hear a good all around Warped Tour compilation pick up the Warped Tour 2003 compilation - by far my favorite of the last 3. The Warped Tour 2004 compilation isn't bad either, and it helps that for the most part the similar styles of music are found on the same disc.

Decent CD,

Some good tracks on here. Sunshine Highway, Poison, Beheaded, Bleeding Mascara, Yell Out, Selfish Man, Ray, Gyasi Went Home, By My Side, Dog Eared Page, all good entries. Some bad tracks too, but I won't mention Start Wearing Purple by Gogol Bordello because the song is great, and the band is great. Anyone who doesn't like Gogol Bordello has terrible taste in music and should probably kill themselves.

Lets set the records straight.,
This review is from: 2005 Warped Tour Compilation (Audio CD)
I was very dissapointed to read all these BAD reviews about the Warped Tour '05 Compilation. Allow me to set the record straight. The Offspring are one of the best bands of all times, and finally recorded a track especially for this cd. Already making this one better than the previous coupies. To add, we have some of the best punk bands of the past couple decades making a come back, and a couple great new bands. To explain this, We have MXPX, who have been around forever, but justifying their taste of punk to a more mature level that anyone can appreciate. The Dropkick Murphys, quite possible the best irish punk band of all times, with their most irish influenced song they have ever released. Plain White T's have always been a thrash emo sound. Except minus the thrash a little, an put in more of a indie sound. All changes made for a changing society. As for new day bands, Fall out Boy, they won't let any of their pop/punk fans down with the catchy "Saturday". From First to Last, let's just take hardcore and turn it into a roller coaster, this song is very unpredictable, and the sound is rad. The very only thing I can say was malfunctioned in the making of this album was the Gogol Bordello song. WE all know what "Track Skip" is. Enjoy the rest of the 49 songs.

Needs a little improvement.,

This is a good compilation of the 2005 Warped tour bands. It could use some improvement though. They could have chosen a much better Dropkick murphys song and a much newer Fall Out Boy song first of all. I'm very pleased with the Millencolin song though. The Armor for sleep and Strung out songs are also very good. It is okay overall, but they used "Note to self" by From first to last on the 2004 comp! The song by The Matches also could have been way better too. One song I really like is the MXPX song. It's pretty good.

i gave this 2 cd comp. five stars because i think that its perfect for this years tour. i think some bands are missing from the cd's that should be on there (Reggie And The Full Effect, Mest, Monty's Fan Club). and they could have chosen a more recent Fall Out Boy song and a different From First To Last song (Note To Self was on the 2004 Warped comp). all in all i think its great. if you really want a good Warped comp. check out the ones for 2002 and 2003. those in my opinion are the best.

What happened to you, Warped Tour?,

This review is from: 2005 Warped Tour Compilation (Audio CD)
Remember the old days of 2001, where Warped Tour compilations were full of unreleased tracks, not the mainstream songs you see on MTV? I miss those days. It seems as if almost every song on here is released and has a music video, minus Flogging Molly and Offspring. There's so much garbage on this compilation it makes me sick. It has it's share of good songs, but many GOOD bands on the Warped Tour, such as Thrice, Matchbook Romance, Riverboat Gamblers, Reggie & The Full Effect, and even The Transplants were nowhere to be seen on here.
MxPx-Heard That Sound: Too pop-punky for Warped Tour. I won't lie, it's a catchy song, but it seems too...teeny-bopper MTV style Dropkick Murphys-Sunshine Highway: I love Dropkicks. I love them to death. But this is NOT a true Dropkicks style song. Not bad compared to some other stuff on here though The Offspring-Beheaded: This song sounds rough and thrown together. Not one of my favorite Offspring songs. Fall Out Boy-Saturday: Great song. Not off of their new CD, but that's okay because Take This To Your grave is much, much better anyway. Very good choice. Hot Water Music-Poison: Here's where I get confused...HWM isn't on Warped '05...so why are they on the comp? Good song, but why are they here? The Academy Is...-Checkmarks: Warped Tour is 95% emo now and here's a perfect example Gogol Bordello-Start Wearing Purple: My friend told me this sounds exactly like Korean Folk Music. Why is this on here over Thrice? Street Dogs-You Alone: I like this song, very good, as close to punk as you'll get on this comp. Atreyu-Bleeding Mascara: I hate Atreyu, but this song is catchy. SideoneDummy at least picked the right song here, it's a good heavy song. Rufio-Out Of Control: Emo? I don't care. I love this song. Reminds me of their contribution to the 03 disc, "Science Fiction". Quality Stuff. Underoath-It's Dangeround Business Walking Out Your Front Door: I don't like this song and it's far from any of Underoath's best. They really don't seem like a good Warped band to me. Hopesfall-The Ones: Another band I don't think belongs on Warped. From First To Last-Note To Self: Why is this song on the '05 set??? Amber Pacific-Gone So Young: It's not a bad track, but they could have picked a better song from the new CD than this. No Use For A Name-For Fiona: I've always liked NUFAN. This is a pretty good track; definitely better than the song from the 03 comp. Boys Night Out-Composing: Good song. Canada can obviously do something right if they can produce bands like this. Plain White T's-Take me Away: Could have definitely done better than this one, though it isn't a bad song compared to some of this stuff. The Unseen-Weapons of Mass Deception: One of the other only true punk bands on here. It's sad thinking about how little punk is on Warped anymore...this isn't even that great of a song. A Wilhelm Scream-Me vs. Morrissey in the Pretentious Contest: Damn, I love this song. Too bad these guys aren't playing my leg of the tour. Underminded-It's kind of like a Bodybag: This is garbage. It belongs nowhere near this compilation. Nural-Tension: They sound exactly like the next Trapt. Which is exactly why I don't like them very much at all. Mae-Suspension: Could we GET anymore emo?! Zao-The Rising End: Garbage. Greeley Estates-Don't Look Away: Not a bad song. I don't dislike emo or screamo, I just don't think it belongs on Warped Tour as much as it is. Big D & The Kids Table-You Lost, You're Crazy: Some good old fashioned ska! Love it, they need some more ska on Warped. Pennywise-Yell Out: Is this unreleased? I'm not sure. But even so, Pennywise isn't on Warped...another big name band not on Warped...but on the comp...hmmmm Flogging Molly-Selfish Man (live): Fun live treat...but they aren't on Warped...which is a travesty. Strike Anywhere-To The World: This song's alright...I'm not a big fan of Strike Anywhere anyway Hawthorne Heights-Ohio Is For Lovers: This is a badass song. Score one for the screamo scene. Millencolin-Ray: Millencolin rules, why can't they play Seattle?!?!? Bleeding Through-Love Lost in a Hail of Gunfire: More garbage. Go back to ozzfest. Halifax-Sydney: Halifax is a good band...never been to the city though...but a good song. Armor For Sleep-Car Underwater: Kind of a slow song. Not really warped material. Bedouin SoundClash-Gyasi Went Home: Interesting song, interesting band. Good, though. Motion City Soundtrack-Make Out Kids: I can't help it. I love this song. I know i shouldn't. But I do. Bleed The Dream-Just Like I Remember: Not a bad song, but it's nothing catchy. Death By Stereo: Entombed We Collide: Pretty heavy band (they are NOT punk, for all of you idiots who think they are) but they aren't bad. Decent song; I liked their track off of the 03 comp the most. Silverstein-Smashed Into Pieces: Probably my favorite track off of the whole collection. Silverstein rules. Gatsby's American Dream-Theatre: More upbeat than anything else I've heard by them and I like it...though it is still emo Roses Are Red-White And Gold: Another good one, I like this song a lot. Youth Group-Skeleton Jar: uh...I don't know why this is on there...not a very good song... Go Betty Go-Saturday: Last year's contribution was much better, but this song still isn't bad (two songs named 'Saturday' on one comp? interesting...) Left Alone-By My Side: Kind of a ska feel to it...but not too great. Strung Out-Analog: YES, great song, I love these guys. THIS is warped tour material! The Matches-Dog Eared Page: Not bad, but it isn't standout material. Except for the frontman's voice, it's pretty unique. Hidden In Plain View-Ashes, Ashes: I wish they would have put '20 Below' on here, it's a much better song but Ashes, Ashes isn't bad...but not as good, Name Taken-Hold On For Your Dearest Life: They could have done better than this. Name Taken's songs just sound kind of sloppy and rushed together. Tsunami Bomb-Being Alright: Yeeeeah, great song. Almost as good as '20 Going on...'. But still a fun song all the same, definitely one of the better of the cd. The Phenomenauts-Mission: hmm...don't remember them on the warped roster either. Not a bad song, but it's pretty weird... Gym Class Heroes-Taxi Driver: Haha this is a fun song, try and see how many bands you can hear them mention. Be quick though, there's a lot. Good song. WHERE is NoFX, Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, Bouncing Souls, The Casualties, Guttermouth, Alkaline Trio, Pulley, Rise Against...? They should have been on Warped '05. Basically, this year's comp just has too much 'heavy' stuff and it's really unlistenable. But oh well. Maybe they will get it right next year.

I went to the Warped Tour this year and this is a perfectly good CD, if you want to hear what you missed, if you didn't go. But, for me, I'd rather see all of those bands live at Warped. Might be more money but worth it. Good deal, you're getting plenty of songs to listen too. Which is nice. But, my main point is buy this__ if you want to hear what you missed at Warped this year or if you wanna remember what you did hear. Not horrible but not amazing great.

Ok this cd RULES.The first dics(stage) is better than the second disc(stage) though. With the first disc having atreyu, underoath, dropkick murphys,Big D & the kids table, greely estates, and others. The second cd is still good though. On the second cd the songs flow together better than on the first cd so it gives a little bit diffrent sound.Overall for 8 bux buy it.

Good Bands... Bad Songs,
By Nikki (Singapore) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 2005 Warped Tour Compilation (Audio CD)
I love almost all of the bands on here, and bought this CD with high hopes.
The chosen songs for this compilation, however, are below par. I can think of dozens more songs for almost every band that would have reflected their talent a lot better. If you're new to these bands, then you won't appreciate this album either, since only one or two of the songs are any good or do the bands justice. If you really want a punk rock compilation, then I'd get something from the Rock Against Bush series, or Punk-O-Rama. This one really doesn't cut it, not in terms of their choice of bands, but in terms of their choice of songs. |
