New Mexico Magazine's 2006 Enchanting New Mexico Calendar features the colorful and detailed work of painter Douglas Johnson. His paintings create miniature windows to a past rich with culture, mysticism and the beauty of the Land of Enchantment.
The calendar is filled with small masterpieces that catch the eye and inspire the viewer. Johnson's works capture nostalgic images of all that he lovesancient Pueblo ruins, adobe churches, and trains.
Johnson lives in a rock home he built nestled along the rock ledges of Coyoté. His home was featured in New Mexico Magazine's book, Artists at Home: Inspired Ideas from the Homes of New Mexico Artists.David Turner, a former director of the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe says, "The world of Douglas Johnson is quiet, elegant, and orderly. Through his small-scaled paintings he helps the viewer escape, as he has, from a modern world too often guided by chaos to a more serene, personalized space."
