Review
"With so many changes taking place in the valley these days, it's nice to have a daily reminder of what Aspen once was. The Berko calendar - displaying the photography of legendary Ferenc Berko - offers just that." --- Aspen Sojourner Magazine, LocalBuzz, Holiday 2007/2008.
About the Author
Hungarian born FERENC BERKO (1916-2000) is one of the pioneers in Aspen's photographic legacy. To the once-small mountain town, BERKO brought his international recognition as a contributor to the history of twentieth-century photography. Berko's photos are in renowned collections including the International Center of Photography, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He is the author of two books: 60 Years of Photography: The Discovering Eye (Stemmle, 1991) and Berko: Photographs 1935-1951 (Graphis, 1999). Acclaimed for his Bauhaus-inspired abstractions, avant-garde nudes, and intuitive reportage work, BERKO is also honored for his contributions to abstract color photography. BERKO'S photographs are an Aspen tradition: his museum-quality images of Aspen from 1948 onward animate local s favorite spaces with a sense of history and of artistic merit. From City Hall to The Aspen Institute, from The Little Nell Hotel to the Hotel Jerome, from the Red Onion Restaurant to the Aspen Ski Company establishments, BERKO'S photographs are Aspen icons.
