With 21 tracks, this is a good sampling of what last year had to offer. It's a great mixture of rock, pop, R&B, hip-hop, country, and even jazz. There are two tracks here from the various artists "Instant Karma"-one from Green Day and one from U2. Interestingly, the category Best New Artist is not mentioned on this album. Also, nominees Rihanna and Fergie are missing but that's a minor complaint. If you're a casual fan who wants to keep up with today's music then this will be a great addition, whether you're a Grammy fan or not.

of course every Grammy nominees album is so eclectic but this year is quite good. More rock and AOR compilation. Good for driving and singin' . If you still hate downloads buy this compilation and keep the industry alive.

I've become a big fan of the grammy compilations. It's a great way to find new and different artists from all styles. Last year was 5+ stars. This year is a solid 5 star.

Let me state upfront that I don't listen to commercial radio/mainstream music hardly at all, as I'm pretty much into indie-rock (and for that, check out WOXY, the internet-only station that exclaims "BAM!!! The Future of Rock and Roll") so when I saw this at my local library, I was curious to see on what I've been missing out to in 2007 in mainstream music.

"Grammy Nominees 2008" (21 tracks, 80 min.) brings a very generous serving of music. It starts off with the fantastic "What Goes Around...Comes Around" from Justin Timberlake (the true heir to Michael Jackson, in my humble opinion). Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" follows and it remains an outstanding track (and album), and deservedly won big time (regardless of the singer's troubles in real life). I was puzzled (and underwhelmed) by Beyonce "Irreplaceable", the first time I had heard it. I was pleasantly surprised by Maroon 5's "Makes Me Wonder", a catchy tune for sure. Feist's "1234" caught fire with the iTunes commercial, and as I have her album I can tell you that it sounds very different/out of context on its own (if you expect the album to be like this, you'll be sorely disappointed). I don't "get" the appeal of Kanye West ("Good Life"). I was mightily surprised that Herbie Hancock won Album of the Year with his all-Joni Mitchell covers album and the song on here "River" doesn't change my mind, I found it quite uninspiring. I listened to the country tracks (Carrie Underwood, Vince Gill) but it's just not for me. I was really eager to hear Doughtry ("Not Over Yet") and what I heard was reminiscent of 3 Doors Down/Nickelback/Fuel, not my cup of coffee. Same of course for Nickeback's "If Everyone Cared" which followed it. I was surprised by the nods for Green Day and U2 (for their John Lennon covers), I mean, is that the best mainstream rock has to be nominated for? Thankfully the White Stripes' "Icky Thump" is represented as well.

In all, this is a pretty good collection. I may not agree with a lot of the music on here, but it offers a lot of music to sample.

I recommend this grammy CD and any other that will be launched yearly. I am buying it since 1995 and can't regret on any. It became a collection of Grammy CD's.

Excellent tape for hearing a variety of music. Recording is of good quality. Nice for getting a sampling of each artist as well.

It's not that great, like, I've seen much better selections, and it was poorly chosen, i wouldn't buy it again

While this CD is a pretty good buy for the number of songs & it demonstrates quite a variety of styles, I was disappointed in it. Partly, it's my own fault because I'd already downloaded the 3 IMHO best songs: Track #10: Nelly Furtado's "Say It Right," #14: Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats," & #15: Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah." Yes, there are some other good songs on the album, but not IMHO good enough for me to pay to download them. I don't buy albums much anymore because I usually only REALLY like a couple or three songs on an album (to put into iTunes/iPod)--it's cheaper to download them. This album is a case in point. I did like #'s: 5 (Maroon 5), 6 (Feist), 19 (Nickleback), & a few others. But I totally didn't like quite a few. Maybe I'm out of synch with the music world? Or maybe it's out of synch with me?

But, of all the prior reviews (& the reason I'm writing this review--since you, kind reader, no doubt have your own taste--quite different from mine) none spoke to Aguilera's "Candyman." Is this a great song? Probably not. But, is it the most interesting song on the CD? Yes, it is. Why, because (as most of you can't remember because you weren't born yet) it's a take-off on the music of the Andrews Sisters era (before my time too, but my parents had this music, so I heard it too) such as "The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B." The singing is a bit different, but the music is VERY similar, in fact I think some of the music was "borrowed." Just thought I'd share a bit of trivia with you. Hava grt day!

I really like these Grammy CD's. You get a good selection of music but not just the hip chart songs like on the Now Thats What I Call Music CD's.
