In the past I have used the Next Exit book and it was sufficent in describing the services at each exit. However, what I like about the Exit Now book is that you do not have the find the various states in the book as you to continue your journey, the highways are continous through the various states like you would expect in a road atlas. This book is a must have for frequent travelers on our interstate highway system. Very please with the format and layout. It is also sprial bound so you can lay the book flat and just turn pages as you drive.

We recently returned from a 2 month long, 9000+ mile summer camping trip, driving through 21 states. I used this book every day that we were on the road! We were towing a camper and our truck takes diesel, so the book came in really handy in locating truck stops and/or stations with diesel. There are color codes to let you know if something can accommodate big rigs and whether a gas station carries diesel. We also used the book to find specific restaurants (especially those that could handle our truck-camper combo), rv dump stations, campgrounds near the interstate, hotels, and attractions. (We would use our camping directories to find the phone numbers/ratings of particular campgrounds.) It was really helpful when we knew we wanted to drive another hour, or were going to run out of gas in a certain number of miles, because you could just count ahead on the exits and know what was available when you wanted to stop. The book was a little bulky, but the spiral binding made it easy to keep open to the page that you needed. I would highly recommend this book and I would definitely buy another one for a future trip. My only caveat is, don't trust it 100% because it simply can't be completely accurate (especially for rest areas ... lots are being closed and aren't reflected in the book.) We generally didn't stop at exits with very few amenities unless it was absolutely necessary -- the more amenities at an exit, the more likelihood that you would find what you needed if a particular place had closed. Overall, GREAT book!

Save your money, purchase The Next Exit instead,
This review is from: 2009 Exit Now: Interstate Exit Directory (Spiral-bound)
This book is missing so much information it's ridiculous. We've always used The Next Exit but this year my husband and I thought we'd give this Exit Now book a try. On our recent trip to California, we ended up stopping halfway to purchase the Next Exit. Entire exits seemed to be missing and the facilities in the book were outdated and false. Save yourself the trouble and money and just go with The Next Exit book. It's been around longer and the information is 10 times more complete.

Missing and Incorrect Pages,

2009 Exit Now: Interstate Exit Directory
This book is being sold with missing and incorrect pages for I81 in the whole state of Virginia. The publisher knows about the problem, and will send a supplement to buyers who "catch" their mistake. Nice of them.

Very inaccurate. We used this on a recent trip from San Antonio to Florida. You might as well ignore the North, South designations - they were wrong for us more often than right. Also, campgrounds were not there which it said were there and vice versa.

Great Resource,

This book is a great resource. Some of the entries need to be updated - but then again, any book like this is out of date as soon as it is printed. I purchase a new copy every few years and it's been a great item to have in the car.

This guide is missing all exits between MM 17 and MM 101 on Interstate 81 in VA. A call to the publisher was unsatisfactory. They do not intend to correct the problem until the 2010 edition, and would not send me the 2010 Guide unless I return the 2009 Edition for a refund now, or pay the full price for the 2010 Edition when it becomes available in January. This would leave me without a complete resource in the interim. Next time I'll buy "The Exit Authority" instead.

Recently went on a 3,000 mile round trip towing a travel trailer. I was constantly refering to this book. It was a great help. Only draw back was getting use to how they referenced the order of the exits. I will continue to use it for short trips in our car.
