More helpful for locals than tourists,

It was helpful only if you knew where you were going or knew the area quite well. As a tourist it didnt help much if you wanted to find a specific type of food in a specific area. One night ended up wandering 12 blocks just to find a reasonably priced italian place in UES.

One word, indispensable. If you like food, buy one every year, AND buy one before you visit any city to plan your culinary adventures.

It's good to have a game plan when visiting NYC (or any big city for that matter), it becomes overwhelming sometimes cause there's just too many resturants to choose from. This guide helps me pick out places I wanna go so I don't end up wandering around aimlessly trying to decide.

The Zagat guide is as important as a map in New York City, where there is a restaurant in almost every storefront or building (and it includes a very nice map as well although I could not get it to tear out). The information is very accurate and up to date, although I did find there were some errors in credit card acceptance. The food quality and price ratings are very helpful. I usually look for around a 20 in food and a less than 40 in price, and figure that is a pretty good combination for me. Some of the great features are the organization by neighborhood, most popular, and highest ratings. I find the most popular more helpful than the highest ratings, because i cannot afford the highest ratings every night.

An invaluable guide,

I visit NYC a couple of times every year, and each time I've relied on this guide for finding great places to eat. NYC restaurants come and go, and my copies tend to get dog-eared since they go everywhere with me, so I get an updated copy every few years. Wouldn't visit New York without it.
