5.0 out of 5 stars Great game leading up to the World Cup
Whether you are a huge soccer fan or totally new to the sport this game is a blast. I bought Fifa 10 at release and have played it a ton and this game only improves on it. Same great engine from Fifa 10 is tweaked to address some major annoyances. (Defenders chesting balls in the box down straight to attackers for gimme goals, easy chips of the keeper)

1.0 out of 5 stars The game code didn't work.
My son was not able to run this game because the codes didn't work. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to return it for a refund, yet. But, hope that they honor it because of this defect.

Scatter shot observations.

All 199 teams, many with authentic jerseys. New stadiums and overall presentation is great although the in-game cut scenes can get a bit repetitive.

Graphics in the cut scenes are also improved and the player close-ups look better than ever. Captain your country is a pretty cool feature, and if you have a created player from Fifa 10 you can transfer him over. The stats you worked so hard to build up will not transfer though as you have to progress by performing well in qualifying and friendlies on the way to the World Cup.

Tourney mode starts with qualifying and friendlies. A simulate match option would come in very handy here since it takes forever to make it to the actual tournament.

Scenarios mode puts you in real life situations from the qualifying around the world with goals to accomplish in each game. Very fun mode with additions coming as the actual cup progresses. The announcers, while not my favorite individuals, are very accurate to situations and add to the game when you can hear them over the crowd (sliders available).

Online mode is fresh but limited to a World Cup tourney starting from the group stage. Pick one country and play three group matches to progress, then to the round of 16, and four single elimination games to win the cup. You do not have to play them all at once. Not sure how the matchmaking works but it is a blast. I would have enjoyed the inclusion of the team play modes which were a blast in Fifa 10. Doubt this was a space issue so I think it should have been included in a full price game.

I guess that is it. Overall a great purchase for most, especially if you have some competitive friends to play with!

GO USA!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this game!, June 3, 2010

Not a big real life soccer fan, but I love me some video game soccer. I've owned Fifa World Cup 2002 and 2006 for the original XBox. I also have World Cup 2006 for the 360. In the World Cup video games of the past the USA is always in the game, but when you win them the World Cup, it never resonates through the announcers the moment in history that just occured. Its a standardized general fanfare for "insert team/country name here" type of presentation. Except this time. In 2010, when team USA goes to the finals, the announcers are prepared. You hear them talking about soccer in America being the fifth sport and the future of soccer in America.. They discuss the possibilities of what would happen if the US, the largest sports market in the world. They make you feel that this is the real deal, not just a few general soundbites that is anti-climatic at the end. Let me tell you, when I won America the World Cup, it felt good because the annoucers and the presentation made it unique. They reminded you that this is an historical moment in soccer history. It's almost like EA and FIFA were really trying to sell this game to that "largest sports market in the world"!

If your a soccer fan and follow the clubs, get FIFA 10. If you could care less about the clubs, like most North Americans not near one the 15 U.S./Canadian cities in the MLS, but you still like video game Soccer, this is the game for you. FIFA 2010 World Cup offers about the same gameplay as FIFA 10, but presentation reflects national pride for your team. Honestly, this is probably the only way you'll ever get to see America shock the world by taking the Cup they covet so much.

4.0 out of 5 stars FUN but not at full price, July 14, 2010

The changes to game play are minor and the graphics are nothing special. What makes the game fun is the online World Cup. Being able to play real people in your quest for the cup at any time with no special planning is great. The $50+ price is not good for minor changes but since I purchased it at a discounted rate (Amazon Special) I am very satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you liked World Cup 2006 then you will like this., July 9, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: 2010 FIFA World Cup (Video Game)
I knew when this game came out i was going to get it i just didnt know when. About a week ago i bought it for full price (first game since GTA 4 that i did that)and ive been playing it ever since. Back in 2006 i got the World Cup game and it was amazing. I loved playing it, i loved competing with international teams. So this world cup game holds a special place in my heart and heres why:

1. Amazing gameplay. Absolutely improved from anything i've played before. I've been playing FIFA since 2002 and hands down the best gameplay i have seen is in this game. The only other game that rivals it is, for obvious reasons, FIFA 2010.

2. Solid Graphics. Since this game is mainly for Next Gen. consoles you get that polished look, even though EA isnt the greatest with faces it still looks fantastic. Especially when the ball his the back of the net, it sends a shiver down my spine.

3. Excellent Presentation. When you score a hard earned goal you get the trio of replays. One in particular is a sweeping crane shot from behind the pentaly box showing you your great play developing. Everytime i see it i feel like im watching my game being broadcasted. Aside from that the menu screens for any gameplay mode are greatly enhanced since '06. Only downside of the presentation is when you get to the World Cup Finals in '06 you got this cool like flashforward cut scene where as your team is standing for the national anthem you see your team in quick cut scenes playing the game in intense moments. That was something i truley missed in this edition. Other than that the celebrations are possibly the best part.

4. Ratings. In FIFA '08 there is a USA team and they are horrible. You can never beat the best teams on your first try but in this game USA is still hanging around 4 stars/79 or 78 overall average as in '08 but suprisingly enough you can actually compete and winning is not as impossible for the US as other games...that is if you are good enough.

5. Captain Your Country. Normally i get over the whole be a pro mode pretty quick but in this game it grows on you. I've made it almost to the end of qaulifying for the tournament and my created player is really really good. He's really good because the better you play in your games the more your player improves. Started at 64 OVR now is 83 OVR in about 15 games. Earning captaincy is also well done because it takes a while to earn it but when you do you definately deserve it. I have to admit that this game mode is probably the best addition of the game.

6. Problems. My only problems with the game are small except for one. This is a huge, GIGANTIC problem. YOU CANT CREATE A PLAYER UNLESS ITS IN CAPTIAN YOUR COUNTRY MODE. Now when you do create a player in captain your country mode he will be on the National pool for the team aspect of the game but you cannot alter ratings so my guy was stuck at 64 OVR...How lame. So that really upset me but you soon get over it. The other big problem is they made crappy teams play better when they are at home. Dont get me wrong i love a CPU challenge but when i beat CUBA 5-0 in the States and then tie them 0-0 in Cuba im pretty pissed. Last but not least my other tiny problem is the same for any FIFA game ever. Whenever you are tightly defended and you want to Pass/Cross/Through Ball any of the sort you have to hit a button X,Y,B,A (obviously...) The damn computer always, and by always i mean always, ALWAYS contests the ball. They could be a few yards away and you could be flying into the box and you hit B to shoot and WTF? the ball goes out for a corner you watch the replay and you notice that the CPU player slide tackled PERFECTLY behind you and tippy toed the ball out. Other than that the game is AMAZING, its already my favorite sports game ever...that and NHL 09...and NCAA 09 lol they are all pretty good but this game is the bees knees.

5.0 out of 5 stars Return to championship form, May 18, 2010

I haven't obsessed over a soccer title since the last FIFA WC game in 2006 it was a very addictive game that allowed the player to fufill the cup dreams of his or her favorite national squad, the GLOBAL CHALLENGES were great and return here as ROAD TO QUALIFYING, some of these are in the form of the CAPTAIN YOUR CLUB variety. Having played FIFA DEMOS for the last few years this is the best soccer game you can get hands down. The player animations and representations are incredibly accurate and fluid in motion, the refs are better and usually only card worthy offenses and best of all they have vastly improved PENALTY kicks so you no longer feel ripped off or unlucky. Offsides should still be a little looser however. The soundtrack is the usual world pop which adds nice background and spice. The other audio is again significantly improved from commentary to actual stadium background ambiance. Another plus is the ability to choose your post goal celebration. The controls offer a bail out setting for the inexperienced with just two buttons allowing virtually the same experience this aspect is surprisingly well implemented. I am busy going through the QUALIFYING scenarios at the moment(avenging IRELANDS handball loss to FRANCE) and since none of my teams (except the US) made the cup this year I will be fufilling their dreams through this terrific and insanely replayable representation of the worlds' most beautiful game. This game only comes out every 4 years and always feels more polished than its FIFA counterpoint and this year is no exception completely worth every penny. UPDATE 6-17-10 EA has been adding STORY OF THE FINALS scenarios since the cup started and there are quite a few so far, these add to the value of this game and are being released in a very timely fashion.

4.0 out of 5 stars must have game, April 28, 2010

This review is from: 2010 FIFA World Cup (Video Game)
this is a world cup game not a club game.. and no fifa 11 will not have this game in it?? .. this is hands down the best soccer game at the international level, we have been waiting to have options like all 199 countries and all qualifying for many years now. last game that had that was fifa 98 but gameplay was bad and no customization so it was always the same groups etc. they basically took the great fifa 10 engine and transfered it to a complete world cup game. any fan of soccer at the international level must buy this.
my scores out of 10:
presentation 9
graphics 9
gameplay 10
replayability 9
customization 8

Game has a good feel and is a lot of fun with 2 players. Can be difficult to score sometimes. The game ball handling seems to work well.

Love the ability to play as any international team, and the "Story of qualifying" where you try to play in scenarios which really happened (Like trying to bring back Argentina from a 5-1 deficit in the 27' in La Paz).
There is not a whole lot more additional gameplay beyond that. It feels like a repainted FIFA 10 which is essentially what it is. I wish this had been like an expansion to download for '10 as that would have made the game perfect.
