A Furlong is about 220 yards but he Marmot Furlong is 25” along the spine for a size medium. Ah! Perhaps the “Furlong” could be an allusion to the faux-fur lining around the hood. But that’s no good. What about the “long” suffix? Alas, ’tis no matter. My job isn’t to pickle puns and titles. Rather, I will simply point out that this jacket combines old-school Inuit hood destine with Marmots ultra-futuristic fabric. The M2 Softshell fabric is water repellent and wind resistant while the faux-fur lining traps warm air around your face so you can still express emotion. Plus, with zippered handwarmer pockets and an athletic, women’s specific cut, nonsensical title or no, it makes sense why this is one of Marmot’s best sellers. I love this coat, I want one in every color. I wore it snowshoeing the first weekend I had it. It's comfortable and easy to move in. And the hood comes all the way forward over my head and doesn't slide off. Very happy with this jacket.

This is my 2nd Furlong jacket from Marmot. I am usually a medium but when I saw it was an "athletic fit" I ordered the large. The one I already have is a medium and fit perfectly but did not allow any layering under it for warmth.
This new one runs slightly larger and I think I would've been fine with the medium but I'm keeping the large for layering and longer sleeves. I get a ton of compliments and then am asked if it gets dirty easily, I got the ivory color, so far so good, besides its washable. The hood is awesome, very big so great on wet days.

I almost didn't order this jacket because of the fur-lined hood -- not really my style, seemed a little frivolous. Was I ever wrong! I can't believe how cozy it is, and I've really fallen in love with the jacket overall. The design allows you to really move it it without things riding up or sliding around uncomfortably. The sleeves are on the long side, which I really like since it eliminates cold wrists when you reach for things. The only quibble I have is minor: I wish it had a second zipper to let you unzip from the bottom, so that when I sit down it wouldn't bunch up around my lap. Otherwise this jacket is wonderful and I would absolutely recommend it to others.
