Editorial Reviews

Ryder Cup Diaries DVD includes the 38th Ryder Cup Official Film DVD in this memorable box set.

Disc 1: Ryder Cup 2010 Diary DVD

The unique, first of its kind Golf documentary will take fans behind the scenes in golf s most prestigious team event. The precise level of access is at this stage a closely held secret but the producers, IMG, reveal ""never before will golf fans have such an insight into the workings, passion and energy of the Ryder Cup as the drama of the event unfolds

This documentary will show elements of the golf event yet to be seen before on DVD. That means on the course, inside the fairway ropes, the press conferences, the nights and days off and some never seen before footage of the players and event.

All the raw emotion and passion from The 38th Ryder Cup will be captured on camera in a film that will change the way fans think about the sport of golf and the extraordinary athletes that play the great game. Fans will know what it feels like to be part of the European and US teams as they seek to gain golf s greatest prize.

The Ryder Cup is the most watched golf event in the world with millions viewing across the globe and 1.5 million UK house holds tuning in to watch the last Ryder Cup when Europe drew against the USA in Kentucky back in 2008.

Disc 2: Ryder Cup 2010 Official Film (38th) DVD

""It made the last nine of the US Open seem like a gentle game with my Dad!""

So said Graeme McDowell - the last man standing - as Colin Montgomerie's magnificent men snatched back golf's Ryder Cup from Corey Pavin's American elite in one of the most extraordinary playings of the sport's greatest competition.

The tournament came to Wales - and the magnificent Celtic Manor Resort for the first time, but furious rain storms meant another first, a Monday finish, as Europe and the USA were forced into a fourth day decider!

After three days of thrust and counter thrust and in front of 40,000 often soaked but always hugely spirited and vocal fans, Europe's determined dozen had forged a surely significant three point lead. On that third day and with all 24 players on the course the hosts, inspired by the imperious Lee Westwood, took five and half points from a possible six!

And so to 'Singles Monday'. The mist slowly lifted and the sun finally shone, knuckles were white, mouths were dry and Tiger Woods led an American assault as Captain Corey's boys scorched the scoreboard red. For Europe, laser like Luke Donald, irresistible Ian Poulter and magnificent Miguel Angel Jimenez delivered precious points. And then there was McDowell - that last man standing... The US Open Champion , The Wales Open Champion .... no finer man to make Monty's Ryder Cup dream come true.

I'd love to rate this and having recently played the course was looking forward to being reminded of the events that unfolded there. But it appears a "Universal" region won't play on my DVD player and I have yet to resolve this either with the vendor or with the DVD player. If indeed a Universal DVD won't play in the US that is deeply frustrating and I particular as I should have been warned by the vendor (many items do show this but I am not sure if this did).

I am an American who attended the 2010 Ryder Cup in Wales. As an attendee, I could not see everything; so I wanted to see what I missed as well as relive some of the highlights that I saw so I purchased this "Collector's Edition." The "Official Film" was approximately 154 minutes and consisted of 10 minutes of the Junior Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, Scotland, 24 minutes of interviews and other preliminary activities, 110 minutes of the competition, and 10 minutes showing and describing the holes at Celtic Manor. The competition coverage did capture most of the highlights, but I would have liked to have seen more golf and less of the Junior Ryder Cup and the interviews - particularly since the interviews featured such clichés as "In match play, anything can happen," "We played with a lot of heart," and "I'm proud of each and every one of them."

"The Ryder Cup Diary" was approximately 78 minutes and showed some of the behind-the-scenes activities. Other than the Wednesday night dinner at beautiful Cardiff Castle, which had a few scenes with the American team, it was all about the European team. Much of the "Diary" was compelling, with interesting revelations such as Luke Donald's piano-playing ability. But ultimately, as much as I like and respect Captain Colin Montgomerie, I got tired of hearing his never-ending, hackneyed assessments of the otherwise-exciting event.

My primary criticism of the two-disk set, however, is that it was only produced in PAL (European) format, which is not compatible with American DVD players. After I sent several emails to their customer service representatives, the Amazon people agreed to reimburse me for the cost of converting the disks to U.S. format. Unfortunately, there was some loss of quality when the disks were converted. So, I was glad that I got to see the only videos taken of the 2010 Ryder Cup, but the viewing experience was not as enjoyable as I hoped it would be.
