Best Baseball Card Reference Ever,
By

This review is from: 2010 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards (Paperback)
If you have ever been fed up with trying to look up a card in one of the monthly price guides only to find that the set isn't even listed or the subset totally omitted this is the book for you. The catalog has just about every thing from all the major brands to obsure issues. While the formating is a little hard to follow, the two indexs with both alphabetical and chronological makes it easy to find a set you are looking for.
Not only is it worth the price but the 2010 edition even has some of this years sets on the cd that comes along with it. I've read the other review that poopoo the fact that all the modern issues are on the cd in pfd format but to be honest to have put all that in print would have required a whole nother volume or two. The listings are huge with even commons listed. Being a player collector this tome is invaluable looking up cards to get a base line on pricing. Another great feature is that each set has a little blurb about production and other interesting facts. Not to mention the book alone is huge and the information on the accompaning cd even more so. This book is the holy grail of baseball cards. Everything from the 1800's to 2009. Highly recommended for the serious or not so serious collector.

Bar none - This is the best baseball card collector's resource. Complete - from a comprehensive list of early cards to a CD update of the card available up to printing time. While one may not always get the price listed as the value in any of these guides, it is also great for insuring cars and collections. I would consider this a must have for anyone with a baseball card collection. You may be amazed, as I was, that some of you cards are worth quite a bit - while others really are best for putting in bike spoke to make the motorcycle sound!! A great investment!!

Useful, but not perfect.,

Important!
All cards after the 2000 year are NOT in this book, rather they are on a CD that is included with the book in a PDF format. This is fine if you have access to a computer when you want to look something up, otherwise you will not have it available to you. The Annual SCD has always been useful for me as it lists cards that I do not find in other references. Additionally, the prices seem to fairly represent, for the most part, what I see them selling for, or at the very least, asking for. Where the book fails, however, is when they fail to list cards they know exist. As an example, in 2005 Donruss produced an autograph set. In some case the production levels of the cards are very low, under 30, but are known to exist. While it is perfectly acceptable to say that pricing information is insufficient, it is NOT acceptable to not list the card at all, thus depriving the reader/collector the tools they need to pursue a full set. If they have to get an additional reference guide to find this out, why bother getting this one? I have emailed the company and have hope they will correct this in future editions.

This Book is Horrible!!,
By
This review is from: 2010 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards (Paperback)
I've been ordering this book each year and I have to say this is the worst. Part of the cards are in the book and the more current ones are on a disk, which makes it very difficult to find cards. Why didn't they just keep things the way they were. Not ever buying this book again unless they really change things back to before.

I haven't purchased a copy of "Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards" since 1997. I must say that they have really improved it 10 fold.

Came to Amazon.com looking for the "2010 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards" book. I received a new book, at a great price, from a reliable company. I will always look to Amazon.com first before I make any book purchases.

the ultimate guide,

I love this guide. It's the be-all and end-all of baseball card guides. It contains not only an exhaustive index of cards (complete with CD for recent sets), but also baseball pins, coins, and other pieces of baseball collection memorabilia. The print is large and easy on the eyes, there are pictures galore, and each set is prefaced with a short blurb describing its characteristics and nuances. All of that said, it's definitely a baseball card PURCHASER'S guidebook, as the listed values of most cards are (in my opinion) some of the more conservative I've seen published. All in all, this is a great sourcebook.

We weren't very satisfied because the book is nice., but the data isn't up to date., we thought we were purchasing a data book with all the prices in the book...well the current pricing is on a disc...Not in the book, therefore we weren't very happy...people should be aware of that., not all pricing is written.,

Awful book. Very disappointed. Really couldn't be more disappointed - I'll probably never even use this book.
Everything after 2000 is on the CD in a giant pdf file. Everything up to 2000 is in the book. So if you're looking up cards, you have to look in two different places. There's also no minor league card listings after 2006 - and one of the main reasons I was buying the book was to find out what minor league sets have been issued over the past couple of years. |
