5.0 out of 5 stars Integrating the Shadow Self
As the magic date of Dec.21, 2012 approaches, there has been a tremendous upsurge in the number of books on the subject (my own search on amazon revealed some 94,000 plus entries). Many of them spell out apocalyptic prospects for humanity in the few years to come, in effect, amplifying the already dominant 'victim' vibration in our troposphere. This book is not like that...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not really about 2012
I was disappointed with this book and I almost feel like the 2012 title was used for marketing.... It is mostly about the moon phases, mythology and astrology.
I enjoyed the first chapter which was an OOB experience/dream with a master teacher but the rest of it I ended up skimming through. Not much new information here...

This review is from: 2012 and the Galactic Center: The Return of the Great Mother (Paperback)
This book is not like that. Refreshingly original, it re-creates some age old methods of creating a new space within ourselves with which to go out and meet the coming changes with welcoming hearts, instead of fear and foreboding. The way there, according to the author, is, in short, the quite simple, (or complex) prescription of acknowledging and accepting our own shadowy and unloved selves, and allowing them to operate in concert with our total persona as a whole.

However, this book is not a how-to-manual. Rich in allegorical content, it uses the imagery of archetypal energies to depict, among other themes, the journey of soul through the twelve signs of the zodiac into a recognition of its own light. Especially evocative, is the imagery associated with the comparison of the heart of the Galactic Center with the Great Mother, whence the expansive white area of stars, represent her pregnant womb and the Dark Rift between, her birth cleft or vagina. Another appealing symbol that has been invoked, and one that to me, resonates particularly strongly, is that of Kali, the Hindu goddess of Death and Regeneration, also referred to by Paramahamsa Yogananda as 'Divine Mother'. As the energies of our sun align with those of the Galactic Center, it is, (according to the author) as if we die to our old selves when we get sucked into the 'black hole' of Kali's womb, and emerge on the other side, via a 'white hole' renewed and rejuvenated in entirety.

The author begins by exploring the physical phenomena associated with this 26,000 year alignment of our sun with the Galactic Center. She then takes up the connection of the same with the Mayan Calendar, where the magic date of Dec. 21, 2012 marks the end of their fourth world and the beginning of their fifth, simultaneously heralding the end of humanity as we know it today. "..the earth and its inhabitants are entering a new world era, ruled by the element of ether....Ether is considered to be the fifth element and the synthesis of the four other elements, earth, air, fire and water. In the past, the driving force for reality creation, have been our emotions (linked to water) and our beliefs and reasons (linked to air). Now at the dawn of a new age of compassion, harmony and interrelatedness, we are connecting to the unity or Christ grid....which reflects the element of ether". Our challenge, according to the author, in the years to come, is "to allow the birth of a new consciousness that reflects the element of ether, the element of the fifth sun, and within which, a fusion of polarities takes place", obviating the need for separation into the opposites of good or bad, light and dark and so on.

After going through the above intoduction to the coming changes after 2012 to humanity as we know it, the author takes us on a search for clues in mythology and ancient history on how to deal with times of global chaos and transformation. Her findings and discoveries in this particular quest, form the major subject matter of this book.

Recurring themes and images that occur in the text quite often, are the Crone, Kali, Isis, Osiris and Horus, Persephone and Demeter and, of course, the twelve archetypal images of the Zodiac (several chapters are devoted to this particular journey of soul) to name only a few. The alchemy of transformation through descent into our unconscious and owning our shadow is discussed in detail. Issues around acceptance, death and rebirth, in particular, are also investigated from several angles in the analysis. Some of the stories and deductions were strongly reminiscent (at least for me) of similar material in the bestseller 'Women who run with the Wolves' by Clarissa Pinkola Estes.

The final exhortation in this book is given by the Great Mother to the author in answer to a question posed by the latter, "What words of advice do you offer as we approach 2012 and beyond?". The answer provided is as follows,"Still your mind and center in your heart. Now through waves of love, connect to the hearts of your cells, organs...Finally, extend your energy towards the stars through the embodiment of love for yourself".
Truly a fine way to welcome Dec 21, 2012, don't you think?

Read this book if you can, it could open you up to interesting possibilities, and, at the very least, mitigate your fears around the 2012 issue, at least a little. Strongly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, informative, & novel approach to examining 2012, September 18, 2008

This review is from: 2012 and the Galactic Center: The Return of the Great Mother (Paperback)
This book presents a very important contribution to the exploration of the significance of the year 2012. It's focus is on archetypal patterns and the transformation of ourselves that can be fostered as our civilization is faced with this time of shifting. Dr. Page examines major archetypal roles that have been reflected in the myths of societies from around the world through history. As the subtitle suggest, the archetypal aspects of the feminine are of great significance, and we are invited to integrate all aspects of ourselves. Astrology and alchemy are metaphysical tools for understanding and applying this awareness in the process of spiritual growth and integration. Thus, this book examines astrological issues as well as elemental and archetypal patterns that are reflected in myths. This book actually has little to do with what may happen externally in 2012; instead, it invites us all to progress in our path of inner transformation. There is a lot to ponder here... this is a great book for those who wish to accelerate their personal growth as 2012 approaches, though anyone looking for prognostication about earth changes and rapid shifts in the external world may be disappointed. I applaud this author for her thoughtful input about how we can embrace this time of great opportunity for personal growth.

It was fantastic to find in only one book all the knowledge I've been reaserching in many books for quite some time. Understanding with my left hemisphere what has been first intuited on how one thing is linked to the other. It confirms the feeling of how the Great Mother is emerging from the unconscious of many, at least that 5% she speaks about. For the awakened and those on the way, it's a great2012 and the Galactic Center: The Return of the Great Mother read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Preparing Yourself for 2012, April 24, 2011

This review is from: 2012 and the Galactic Center: The Return of the Great Mother (Paperback)
This 234 page book from 2008 is different than the many other spiritual awakening and 2012 books that I have read and I really enjoyed it. I honestly wished I had read it sooner, but I probably understood it better by reading it at this time in my path. It is full of mythology and alchemy, and history. It has the "stuff" behind the Wizard of Oz's curtain. It tells you how we traveled from here to there, and how it all connects. Our author, Christine Page, "began her medical practice in London, in 1978 and combined it with homeopathy in 1989. She now lives in California, and has created a training program to enhance the power of intuition for health-care professionals."

The "Great Mother" is the overarching primal source, the "ocean of possibilities" where all dreams and ideas arise and where they will cycle back to return one day. The first chapter lays a foundation of the transformational period we are in now, from the 1987 Harmonic Convergence, the Mayan Calendar and shift to 2012, and beyond - entering the world of the "ether/5th element," gaining access to multidimensional realms of universal awareness, Pythagorean concepts/Platonic Solids, entering the New Age of the Unity/Christ Grid, and the Journey Through the Galactic Center.

Although there is a lot of interesting info in this book that I enjoyed (and I will read it more than once), my favorite part was toward the end, where we review Hermes Trismegistus and the writings of Balinas, the third incarnation of Hermes. Here, Christine breaks the lines down, matching them to each of the chakras (energy centers of the body) and discusses the meaning/journey of the self through that chakra toward ascension. (This section alone was priceless to me!) This is the kind of book that has so much info within it, I suspect you will absorb something new every time you re-read a chapter.

Ain't this a great time to be ALIVE!

God Bless you on your search for Enlightenment--enjoy the journey. Namaste'

PS--I noticed a few comments from reviewers about it not being a "2012" book. It does not say a whole lot about 2012, so if that's all you are looking for, this ain't it. Try Barbara Hand Clow's book about the Maya. With that said, I think this book is more designed to help you with your inner vibration so that you can function in 2012. Heck, nobody knows what will happen in 2012 anyway. We are all just speculating based on what we think our inner guidance is saying.

4.0 out of 5 stars At last some clarity on this 2012 stuff!, December 16, 2011
By
Lesley Crossingham (Gold Coast, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 2012 and the Galactic Center: The Return of the Great Mother (Paperback)
For those of you who haven't heard, (I don't know what planet you are on, but please give me the address!) for the first time in almost 26,000 our sun will be most closely aligned to the Galactic Centre...and..this all occurs towards the end of next year! This alignment was prophesied by the ancient Mayan people, and outlined in their calendar which expires that this exact moment. According to Christine Page, this alignment therefore offers us a thirty-six year window of opportunity for humanity to participate in the creation of a new era of expanded consciousness.

For many pagan and Earth-Goddess followers, the Great Rift represents the universal Goddess-Mother. Christine likens the shape of the rift within the Milky Way to a female body and the Galactic Centre appears to be a cosmic "womb" which will align and form the shape of a pregnant female. Therefore Galactic Alignment opens up the "vagina" of the Great Goddess and heralds the rebirth of the divine feminine qualities of the triple Goddess: intuition, emotional creativity and renewal. This is the return of the Great Mother; the core element of life that has not been honoured or embraced for the past several thousand years.

Christine Page's careful attention to detail, and the facts she reveals from both ancient times, and from modern medicine are hard to refute. For those readers who wonder if all this 2012 fuss is just another neurotic scare tactic disseminated by unscrupulous psychics in order to sell tickets to their conventions, this book's information offers a sane and scientific interpretation of these events. She makes a very clear and irrefutable case for the fact that since 1987, and the Harmonic Convergence, we have seen enormous changes in our world. Who would have imagined that a black man would run for President of the United States, let alone win? or that all the world governments would align to overcome a world-wide economic melt-down?

Of course there are those who continue to interpret these events negatively and fearfully, and so for anyone who feels at all nervous about the next twelve months, I would urge them to read this book and explore the facts rather than the rumours. I recommend this book to any thoughtful and dedicated researcher of the facts, not the fiction, of the 2012 phenomenon.

2012 and the Galactic Center--The Return of the Great Mother

ISBN-13: 978-1-59143-086-5 (Bear & Company, 2008)
Since the beginning of recorded history, every civilization on down to today's surviving indigenous peoples have spoken about this time in our human story, so I think it's wise on our parts to learn about this event and its possible implications. These are special times when sacred spiritual tools will be available and knowing how to use them will be the key to unlock the hidden treasures of an expanded consciousness. Aligning with the feminine energies will once again connect us with our earth, which gives us life with every breath. An extraordinary book for an extraordinary time.

This review is from: 2012 and the Galactic Center: The Return of the Great Mother (Paperback)
Christine Page, M.D. has written an interesting book about a loaded topic. While it pulls in an interesting mixture of ancient wisdom, practice and thought I am afraid that many people who are hungry for a new and hopeful epiphany will find this very woo-woo. I actually LOVE woo-woo and am in that camp most of the time, but many mainstream folks on the cusp of awakening need a framework that is more understandable and relate-able to them.

This book is well-researched and frames the times we live in truthfully. Yes, it is a time of transformation, yes it is a time of reorganization and change and yes unpredictable events (from nature and man) which leave many fearful and confused. Overwhelmingly though, this is the most exciting time in the history of the world (my opinion) and this new age we are ushering in leaves me hopeful, optimistic and excited.

I think many people who pick up this book want to read from Dr. Page in black and white-- "the World will not end in 2012" and why Christine Page believes this--but these words never come--not in plain English anyway. Love is the answer to everything--yes.... But I think that most that are seeking guidance from Dr. Page want to hear more spelled out guidance from "The Great Mother".

I am thrilled that more and more of the feminine energy needed to return to global harmony is present and growing here on earth and that women like Dr. Page are educating us as to the tremendous role we all can play. I hope that she conducts interviews all over the globe as 2012 gets closer-- as I am sure that she can channel so much of the uncertainly that some have into clarity, peace and optimism.
