Wine Tasting Notes

  • Winery : Kyra Wines
  • Three Word Taste Summary : citrus , minerality , honeysuckle
  • Food Pairings : Great for casual sipping or pairing with halibut, vegetarian dishes, grilled chicken, or Asian foods.
  • Suggested Drinking Window : 2013 or later
  • Storage Instructions : Store in a cool (46-65 degrees fahrenheit) dry area.
  • Tasting Notes
Crisp and refreshing with delightful aromas of pear, grapefruit, and Meyer lemon with touches of honeysuckle and mineral notes. This wine always reminds me of picking honeysuckle flowers off the backyard fence with my brother when we were young. The soils of the famous Evergreen Vineyard in Washington State with its rich sand and surrounding basalt cliffs are exhibited in the mineral and powdery touch of this wine. For your pleasure... Kyra
  • Vintage Notes
In 1999 Bruce and Kyra Baerlocher purchased an apple orchard in Central Washington on the Wahluke Slope and converted half of it to wine grapes. Kyra, with a B.S. degree in Bacteriology from the University of Idaho, started making wine in small private lots. Our first commercial release of 600 cases in 2006 included a 2004 Pinot Noir and a 2005 Pinot Gris. Our vineyards have expanded, Pheasant Vineyard now includes 75 acres, and Purple Sage Vineyard encompasses 100 acres. Although our vineyards are on the Wahluke Slope, our home has been in Moses Lake, Washington for over 20 years and this is where we began our winery operation. We moved to a larger location in 2007, a 5200 square foot building that is part of the Port of Moses Lake and were able to include a tasting room in the operation. Today we produce about 2000 cases per year with wines from our own vineyards as well as those we contract from others. Our best-selling wines include our award-winning Chenin Blanc and our Washington State Pinot Noir. Kyra is the Winemaker and handles all the winery operations while Bruce oversees the vineyard operation in addition to his day job as the Chief Financial Officer of a large farm and custom crush operation. Our wines are approachable in style and price. We focus on food-friendly varietals and we submit them...

Pinot Gris is my favorite of all of the Kyra wines. The taste is excellent and I enjoy drinking it any time. We have been favorites of Kyra wines since they first opened their tasting room. Don't pass by this wine. I love both white and red wines, and this is one of my favorite whites. It is crisp, tangy, and downright fun!!! The price points are amazing for the quality of this fresh and lovely Pinot Gris.
