Close, But Not Touching!, February 10, 2009
This review is from: 2012 (Audio CD)
This album by Mark Dwane leans more towards tribal/ancient themes more than any other of his releases. But overall, the same MD sound can be heard throughout the whole album, and there are some very nice tunes on this one, but it didn't quite grab me as much as all the other releases.
The MIDI guitar is still there, but to a lesser extent I think, since it's not the main instrument that can be heard all the time. This time I feel it's more 'acoustic' guitar and piano oriented with a more laid back tempo. Nothing bad about that but I prefer the more ethereal guitar style and fast paced rhythms.
Despite this, there are a couple of tunes that struk me like lightning, and those were the amazing guitar/synth piano based 'Ascension' and 'Skywatchers' which are the real highlights on this disc!. And all in all I think Mark was quite creative indeed on this disc aswell, but at times, on a few tracks, something seems missing. Maybe the lack of inspiration/ideas?. I don't know. It still is a essential release for the collector of Mark Dwane's music.
Definetely Recommended!
