Product Description

The 2012 Year of the Dragon 1 oz Silver coins have been highly anticipated around the globe. With over 2 million requests received by the Perth Mint, the total mintage of only 300,000 coins has made the 2012 Silver Dragon even harder to find. In the Chinese Lunar Calendar, 2012 is the Year of the Dragon. The dragon is known for its strength, beauty, and noble nature. These traits are flawlessly portrayed in the Perth Mint's 2012 Year of the Dragon coin. Not only is the dragon the only mythical creature in the Chinese zodiac, it is also one of the most popular. (In original plastic capsule from the Perth Mint)

We purchased the coin for a first born son in the year of the Dragon. The parents were very pleased and thought the coin was beautiful

The "2012 Australian Colorized Dragon - 1/2 OZ .999 Fine Silver" - is just that - 1/2 Ounce of .999 fine Silver with a "Colorized Dragon" on the front or "Obverse" of the coin. These are minted from the Australian Perth Mint (Similar to the US Treasury. There is some "numismatic value" to these coins - but they are not extremely rare (you can and should check the mintage). They are beautiful and a favorite among collectors (including myself). They also make a great gift for the novice to serious collector. As I read some of the reviews - when you purchase one of these be aware of the following: The 2012 Australian Colorized Dragon comes in many sizes (1/2 Ounce, 1 Ounce, 2 Ounce, 5 Ounce and upto 5 Kilogramrs - know what size you are buying). Some come in the "Perth Mint Box and have a Certificate of Authenticity", some are shipped in the "Plastic Mint Capsule" only. SOme have been graded and are "Slabbed" - read up on your grading (MS60 to MS 70). Currently, I have some 2012 1 Ounce Dragons that are Slabbed and NGC Graded - 1 OZ MS 69 - you can see the current price. Notably, some of the reviews seem to be from a "stacker's" perspective - in other words if you are buying silver simply for the non-numismatic value - yes this is not the product for you - you might look at the American Silver Eagle (ASE) or some of the bullion products from Johnson Matthey Mint, North Western Mint, Sunshine Mint, Scottsdale Mint and a few others. Lastly, there are different product in the silver retail market - get a little education - buy a few and you will not regret in the long term!

At first i was expecting a perth mint box with this item but only received a perth mint capsule, also there was meant to be a certificate for this but i did not recieve one
Overall the transaction was ok and i did receive my item with a fast approach but i was hoping for a little better then what i received, the coin itself was very shiny and looked great
