I'm a big fan of David Carson, who is best known for his work on MEDICINE CARDS, which had an enormous impact beyond the million copies sold. But he's also a novelist-- check out LAMENT (Grove, 1972)-- and a memoirist-- check out CROSSING INTO MEDICINE COUNTRY (Arcade, 2005) (He's also been a ghostwriter on some New Age bestsellers; you might be surprised to know their titles!)

Like MEDICINE CARDS, the 2013 ORACLE is composed of a book and a set of cards. The text presents the hypothesis that ancient American civilizations had great wisdom which we still don't entirely understand. The cards form a sort of spectrum of archetypes, a set of constellations of qualities. The fabulous visionary artist Gigi Borri (check out his bio on the Web, he's quite a fascinating guy himself) has rendered these archetypes in bold, arresting, gorgeous and sometimes frightening images.

This is a great divinatory tool. As we approach the galactic ecliptic, things will change at an accelerating rate. 2013 ORACLE gives very direct and sometimes very blunt predictions.

It's also a great piece of writing, and can be experiences as an interactive literary text, to which the cards are a key.

These two ways of reading/using 2013 ORACLE are not at all incompatible; using the cards and the book together, you can have a sort of conversation with these ancient archetypes, and you'll learn a lot about yourself!

Like the other reviewer, I love Medicine Cards and the wisdom that David Carson shared in that set. I looked at the official web-site for the 2013 Oracle and was blown away by the cards, their design and colors. I eagerly anticipated their arrival and was sadly disappointed by the size of the cards. At $29.95 (thankfully, I didn't pay full price) - the cards could be bigger. At least the book contains extra large versions of them so the artwork can truly be appreciated.

I love the concept and am really looking forward to using this deck.

The cards are so small and so flimsy it is a big disappointment.
They are difficult to see. The Mayan numbers are written in gray on black ... not easy to read. The art is OK not anything more than that.
The cards are a BIG disappointment and they will not last long.
Cheaply made. Just can't get past the very poor card quality...to even comment on the text.

I was drawn to this deck because of the title 2013.... I just thought to myself "Wow, something that can predict the future"- yes, I lie to myself like this all of the time.

The cards are unique, they are thumb sized, pill shaped cards that are pretty much difficult to shuffle. So I end up spreading the cards around on a flat surface and call it shuffling. There aren't many cards to this deck, about 30 something cards so to me that just made me think not much breadth in the readings.

I pulled one card, and it set the tone of this deck. Then I decided to ask it a question pertaining to work but also in my life with a 3 card spread and it was pretty accurate. Then I did another read... 3 card... and yes that read was pretty accurate too.

There is a lot of anecdotal stories that sometimes one can find it hard to relate it to the message of the cards at times. But the stories are neat and engaging. If you couldn't get your answer from the story, then its possible to get it from the two paragraph explanation of the card and its significance when it pops up in a reading. If he makes a book that expands on the personalities in the deck with less brevity, I would totally buy it.

I haven't taken the time to look at the suggested spreads in this book, but what I would like to see more from this deck is if it can show you possible solutions to your problems. So far, at least with the readings I've done with this deck, I haven't gotten anything like that. It is really good at repeating your question back to you... maybe I am being too blocked or careless in reading through the book.

You will learn a lot about Native mythical beings and also South American cultures and a little with astrology by using this deck. Though the book doesn't really always offer tangible solutions, it does ask you to go through imaging and intuitive/meditative route in getting to the answers.

As I get to learn more about this deck, the more I may update. But so far I really like this deck, its been amazingly accurate straight out of the box.

Two things initially drew me to the 2013 Oracle: The beautiful book cover design and author David Carson. I bought the 2013 Oracle after test driving it for five minutes. The wisdom and power of the book transported me. This is the kind of book that serves as a Portal to a World More Real and Beautiful, a Higher Consciousness, Home. A Spiritual Teddy Bear and The Jaguar Spirit - The Teachings of the American Mound Builders, Temple Builders from Canada to Peru, my spiritual heritage. Sacred Sites,Energy Systems/ Grids in the Earth. End of Nine Hells. New light emerging from that Very Black Hole. New Humanity :)
The cards. I read another review saying they were too small and cheap. However, because they are smaller and thinner, they are easy to manipulate. So they are perfect. I have only drawn 4 cards so far,one for another. All incredible. Spine Tingling. Empowering. Makes you get up and dance. Makes you meditate. You?

As a fan and long-time user of the Medicine Cards, I was very disappointed in David Carson's 2013 Oracle: Ancient Keys to the 2012 Awakening. The cards are small and hard to use and the so-called "cloth" is actually plastic! Using the black, shiny side as a "mirror" is a stretch, at best. As a very tactile card reader, this is almost too much to get past. I will soldier on, and read the text and I imagine that it will hold wisdom within it's pages. But the overall experience is NOT one that I enjoyed and therefore, will not return to these cards over time. I should have listened to the other reviewers!

LOVE this book and the matching oracle cards. Very much to the point, beautifully written, insightful and just plain fun.
