Good CD-The Original Recordings !,
By
This review is from: 20th Century Masters (Jewl) (Audio CD)
This is a dog gone good cd. These are the original recordings remastered. Obviously the person who was dissapointed has never heard or grew up listening to remakes of songs Ernest made later on. But for us Country music purists this cd is excellent.Keep in mind that Tubbs peak period was the 1940's. He scored his biggest hits on Billboards Country chart during that period. Hits from him were more sporadic in the 50's,60's and 70's.As far as the quality-back in those days everything was mono and they didn't have the sophisticated equipment in the studio like they have today. If you wanna hear ET the way his records sounded when they were originally released get this cd today. This is ET at his best !

Remember those great Ernest Tubb hits from the radio and juke boxes, well not many of them made it to this release. Most of these are NOT the ones your used to hearing, I dont know where they came from, maybe they were demos, or an earlier version, but they are not the ones that made him a legend. They sound like they were recorded in garage as well. The only ones that sound like the original to me are "Thanks Alot, and Sweet Thang".

A Legend,

Here is a solid compilation of Ernest Tubb; a true Legend of Country & Western Music. Folks, Ernest Tubb was authentic, and that is what music is all about.....especially Country Music. Noone did more for Western music than ET, and his contribution to true Honky Tonk will never be measured. The fact that he gave us Jack Greene and Cal Smith are enough, but his own style of doing a song changed our music forever. This album is just another great release by 20th Century Masters; and the recordings are original. In fact, you may think they are too original....as a few of the original scratches and fuzz still exist. Of course, this album contains "Walking the Floor" and "Waltz Across Texas", but even more impressive is the inclusion of "Drivin Nails" and "Two Glasses Joe"; as well as one of the first true male/female duets of "Sweet Thang" with Loretta (Conway had nothing on ET). a truly enjoyable listen.

First off, I usually run away from "best of" CDs faster than a greased pig, but the price was low enough to encourage further review. Like some of the others who wrote before, I will mention that SOME OF THESE RECORDINGS WERE DONE MONO, AS THEY WERE ORIGINALLY RELEASED... I found that to be a nice addition to my collection, since I have other E.T. versions of most of this material. The liner notes, though not large were informative & well written. The selection was a good representation of E.T.'s
innovation and catalog. I would state that Ernest Tubb may take some aquired tasting, but his imperfections soon end up to be endearing in this over-manipulated age. Sweet Thang featured Loretta at her vocal apex. Drivin' Nails In My Coffin, athough edgier on Earnest Tubb - Live 1965, is one of the most under- appreciated songs in country music. This one's goin' in the Juke!

This CD was bought for my 93 year old Mother-in-Law who is a nursing home.
Her eyes lit up when she listened to Ernest Tubb singing the songs that she grew up with in Missouri. I want to thank you for the CD which arrived in a few days of ordering and thanks for making her day brighter.

A very nice compiliation of Ernest Tubbs songs--all classics. I don't like the mega-collections on multiple cds--just the essentials, like the classics on this one. Also, a great introduction for listeners new to Ernest Tubb.

Country music has sure changed a lot since Ernest Tubb. Too bad Country isn't like this today.
Now this is what I call authentic Country. This Country & Western CD is so wonderful, I can listen to it over and over. Even though I love the whole CD, my favorites are: "Walking the Floor Over You", "Two Glasses Joe", and "Sweet Thang" (with Loretta Lynn). I remember when Ernest Tubb died, and I was sad. Now, many years later, I'm still listening to him.

After ordering the CD The Best Of Ernest Tubb, Yhe Millenniun Collection, I teceived it in week. My feverate is "Walking The Floor Over You". They are all great songs that I herad while growing up. Great Sound, Just like in the good old days. I only had a few of Ernest Tubb's 33 1/3 RPM records left. The CD sound is better. Good Buy.

Perhaps best appreciated by someone who is looking to fill out a collection of earlier western music. The sound quality is good for its time, and the arrangements are pretty, with a beautiful rendition of "Walkin' the Floor Over You", but most people would be happier with the livelier Asleep at the Wheel versions of this and other numbers.
