5.0 out of 5 stars A must have in your collection
The pairing of Motown's superstar Marvin Gaye with the little known Tammi Terrell during the late 1960s was nothing less than a stroke of genius! Since their first recording of the Ashford & Simpson classic "Ain't No Mountian High Enough" in 1967; nearly every single they recorded was a top-ten hit on the Pop or R&B charts during the late 60s. I've had a taped copy of these two and now finally the real thing. I wish there were more songs. I rate it a little low not for the quality of the music, which is wonderful, but for the paucity of selections. and especially: Where's the Onion Song?

The pairing of Motown's superstar Marvin Gaye with the little known Tammi Terrell during the late 1960s was nothing less than a stroke of genius! Since their first recording of the Ashford & Simpson classic "Ain't No Mountian High Enough" in 1967; nearly every single they recorded was a top-ten hit on the Pop or R&B charts during the late 60s. Every one of those hits are contained in here this CD. Their vocals are so in synch with each other, steeped with such real love, passion and desire; you would swear they were truly in love with each other (this was discounted by Gaye and Terrell). Previous to Terrell, Gaye had recorded with singers Kim Weston and Mary Wells, but none could touch Tammi's unique vocal gifts. I would highly recommend this CD to those who loved Marvin. I would dare say they were the best soul-singing duo of the 20th century. Therefore. it's befitting their work would received the distinction of being included in the Millennimum Collection Series.

5.0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING!!!, March 19, 2002
By
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell (Audio CD)
Out of all duets I have been hearing, the best one I love is, of course, the late greats Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell. "Your Precious Love" is so sexy & sensual to slow dance to. Also, if you need something to up-lift your emotions & spirits, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "You're All I Need To Get By," & "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing" are those choices. To Luther Vandross & Cheryl Lynn, I still love y'all, but Marvin & Tammi's version of "If This World Were Mine" is what I call a classic. It's so sad that Tammi Terrell passed on at young age of 24 of brain tumor---just 14 years before Marvin Gaye would reunite her in soul heaven. FACT: Did y'all know that Valerie Simpson (who co-wrote these songs with hubby Nick Ashford) filled in for Tammi on "Good Lovin' Ain't Easy To Come By?" Even I had no idea. So if you're into romancing with your loved one, please buy this CD. Big up 2 Marvin & Tammi! God bless y'all!!

5.0 out of 5 stars 20 Century Millen. Collections seem to be getting better...., June 13, 2000
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell (Audio CD)
...and I've got to do this quickly before 'mistermaxxx' copies me like he always does...be original thinking. This Marvin and Tammi collection has all the hits..."Ain't No Mountain High..", "Your Precious Love", "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing", it also have rarities like "If I Can Build My World Around You" and it sounds so good because of recent state-of-the-art remastering. I figure you don't have to be told what 'Legends' or 'Genius' this duo is to enjoy their classic sound...I'll leave that assignment to another reviewer...

Tammi's and Marvin's voices compliment each other perfectly.
My favorite song is "You're All I Need to Get By", but you soon find that there is a little something special in every one of them and they all become your favorite.
This CD is packed with hits like "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing", "Your Precious Love" and everyones favorite "Ain't No Mountain High Enough".
A must have for anybody.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ain't No Mountain High Enough, May 30, 2001
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell (Audio CD)
It is amazing how this song ("Ain't No Mountain High Enough")can make you feel and realize that there are no frontiers for true love. First time i heard it was at "The Step Mom" movie and i tried to get it but had no luck. Tammi & Marvin sign it like they are really feeling what they say. Now my husband and I will get the cd and the lyrics so we can play it anytime. Thanks so much Marvin and Tammi for such a wonderful song!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Soul Duo, October 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell (Audio CD)
I've had their album for 20 years. I always love to listen to them when I have this yearning for old soul romantic music. They sound so good together-their harmony blends so well. I have tried to look for this album in CD and I had a hard time. Now that I found it, nothing is going to stop me from buying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars not enough for this collection!, April 27, 2001

Just a few points. Tammi did not die in a car crash as stated above - she died of a brain tumour after fighting the illness for a few years. This collection is outstanding, there isn't a poor track among them. Its interesting that one of their greatest hits - The Onion Song - is ommited. Is this because Tammi did not sing on it? Her place was apparently taken by the writer Valerie Ashford (Ashford & Simpson) who was the co-writer. Tammi was to ill at this stage to record. Legend has it that Tammi collapsed into Marvins arms on-stage while singing 'Your Precious Love', this was her last live performance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Motown GOLD!, January 27, 2002
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell (Audio CD)
While over here in Britain people were gripped by Beatlemania and the 'Liverpool' Sound, the USA was under the influence of another fledging sound, Tamala Motown.
Tamala Motown is responsible for some of the most enduring pop classics in history. This CD is a true testemant to one of the most talented duo's ever.
It's a shame however that The Onion Song is not included; however i have a feeling that this may be because at the time this song was released Tammi Terrell was so ill nobody knows whether or not it is actually her voice heard on the record.
