4.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE!, January 8, 2004

This review is from: 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: Best Of Barrett Strong (Audio CD)
I bought this cd for 'Money" which my parents have as a 45 b/w
'I apologize'. All I can say is these are the original recordings and nobody sings 'Money' like Barrett strong. It's raw, untamed and the best version.
The other tracks are all a & b sides and good for what they are, but none match 'Money'
It's interesting to note that Barrett was one of Motowns earliest artist's and Money was probably Mowtowns first hit.
Most of the other songs have a early Motown feel and you can hear a Smokey Robinson influence in the music, which is no suprise as he co wrote a few of the songs on this cd.
(Of interest too is that Barrett co wrote huge hits, such as Grapevine, War & Just my imagination in the mid-late 60's)
If you like this cd then please try the Marv Johnson 2fer cd 'Marvelous Marv/More Marv Johnson'. Marv like Barrett was an early Motowner but with a sweeter voice.
