5.0 out of 5 stars What a Voice!!
This is a great album to introduce you to the wonder and power of Jennifer Holliday's voice. From the smooth ballads to the powerhouse song, "And I am Telling You...", that she is known for, Jennifer takes you on a vocal journey that I assure you is well worth the trip. I have had the pleasure of seeing her perform live and I find it hard to believe that she...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Earthmoving
I was introduced to Jennifer through televisions' Ally Mcbeal where she has featured several times, and liked her semi-gospel renditions very much.

However, this album does not give that wonderful delivery at all, so I found it rather bland. As it is, this is going into a pile of easy listening and I'd much rather stick with Natalie Cole etc.

If Jennifer wants to...

This cd will spell doom for the previously released "The Best Of Jennifer Holliday" released on the Geffen label. That set was well packaged and presented, it features a stunning portrait of Jennifer, not a snapshot. That set also featured remixes, a cut from her Arista set, and an unreleased outtake. This set re-releases the "meat" of that album, with alternate selections from "Get Close To My Love." The mastering of this cd isn't as clean as the aforementioned Geffen release, at least the alternate cuts presented here are better mastered than the re-release of "Get Close To My Love" which was Jennifer's swan song for Geffen. This cd is a good introduction to Jennifer's work for the casual fan and the collector of the 20th Century Masters series. For the rest of us, the presence of the alternate tracks remastered makes for a worthwhile purchase. The tracks are the original album tracks, no remixes or extended versions of the dance hits. The out-of-print "Say You Love Me" could have been better represented, since Jennifer's other Geffen albums are available, and it would have ensured the previous compilation would have remained in print.

4.0 out of 5 stars Real Strong Vocalist, January 13, 2003
This review is from: 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Jennifer Holliday (Audio CD)
just for "Am I Telling You" alone is a Must have Gem.Jennifer Holiday truly is one of the Most Underrated Artists over the past 20 years too me overall.with what goes for Singers especially Female Vocalists Jennifer Holiday alone would Blow away 95% of what goes Singing.a good reminder of a Vocalist with alot of Promise who never quite got the chance She deserved.

The next Aretha Franklin. I wish she had more CDs in the market. Her voice is rich, soulful and moving.

This CD is awsome because Jennifer is awesome! I loved every song...and in particular "And I Am Telling You". I saw the 2006 Movie Dream Girls, and though the talent was good, the singing came no where close to Jennifer Holliday - A SPIRITED POWERHOUSE!!!

Worth it all just for the opening track...the most -successully- "over-the-top" vocal performance in recorded history. It's exhilarating just to thing of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jennifer is one of a kind, September 8, 2011

This review is from: 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Jennifer Holliday (Audio CD)
With such an amazing voice it's crazy that Jennifer Holiday isn't even more famous than she is. Her voice is one of a kind and no one else out there has such a versatile and strong voice like hers. Though I don't love all the songs on this, I find her voice so amazing that I don't mind listening to even the ones that I'm not crazy about. Of course the ones I am crazy about are superb! I would recommend this to anyone who loves a great singer.
