Great music, but a poor product...,

I agree... What is MCA's (and by extension, Universal's...) problem with being so goddamn stingy with their reissue records??? It just doesn't make sense to put out such skimpy records for an audience that has become used to top-notch, 20+ track reissue albums. Still, the first reviewer is right, too: there's nothing wrong with the music that's on here. There just oughtta be more of it.

A Good Introduction,

This review is from: 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of the Flying Burrito Brothers (Audio CD)
There are obviously much better collections out there of this amazing group's music, and I've bought several, some just for a single track I didn't have. So yea, I love this band. Still, this disc certainly deserves more credit than what some of the reviewers are giving. Yea, all these 20th Century Masters CDs could and should have more songs. However, I didn't run across those larger collections for $5 at Walmart.
Some years back, I'd heard of the Burrito Brothers, but hadn't heard them. I was/am into a lot of what I call hippie country, but none of my musical mentors ever turned me onto this band's music. While the Burritos are getting a little more attention these days, they're still not exactly a household name. Having stopped at the dreaded Walmart for something or other after work one day (think it was summer 2002), and as even though their selection of music is pitiful, I never can resist a quick browse. Well, I ran across this CD for a paltry five bucks. I'd wanted to hear this band for awhile, and here was an inexpensive chance (there was always the possibility they might suck and I didn't want to be out $10 to $20). Well, it didn't suck! I fell in love with the band, and this is a nice sampler of Burritos music, which if you don't get the "hippie country" description, it's country music played with a bit of a rock'n'roll attitude by people with long hair who often alter their minds with illicit substances. This is certainly a cheap place to start for the uninitiated. The music is five stars all the way, I just knocked off a star because it should contain more songs. Nice artwork and some brief but informative liner notes to introduce you to the band. With the price this is selling for now, it's a real bargain and everybody out there doesn't want to spend a lot on a band they haven't heard. After listening to this a few times, I went out and bought one collection and album after another on CD and vinyl till I had pretty much every song the band recorded till Chris Hillman's departure. I'm starting to dabble in their later line ups now. My personal recommendation is Hot Burritos! The Flying Burrito Bros. Anthology 1969-1972 as it contains their first three albums, some singles, demos and a couple of live cuts. By far, the best buy for your money. Farther Along: Best Of The Flying Burrito Brothers is a 21 song sampler at a low price. You get more songs than with this one, but about a third are demos of cover songs, and when we're talkin' the Burritos doin' covers, I'd hate to do without Buck Owen's classic Together Again, which 20th Century Masters includes. ANY Burritos discs that feature Gram Parsons are well worth the money (if you don't know, he's the guy with the marijuana leaves all over his suit), and in my opinion, essential music. Anything after Gram I've heard has been good so far. Do yourself a favor and try out The Flying Burrito Brothers, a unique and extremely pleasurable trip through the country. Even with shipping this disc is under $5, so why wait?

The first reviewer is right. Why bother with this disc when you have so many better choices out there. Get the original studio albums, particularly GILDED PALACE + BURRITO DELUXE (2 for 1). Meanwhile, hope and pray that the self-titled third album, issued years ago by Mobile Fidelity but now out of print, gets reissued. Remember, if you see these look-alike discs in this 20th Century Masters series on any of your favorite artists, you can bet you're going to be shortchanged. This series is all about money - not music - or artwork.

The Flying Burritto Brothers.... hmmm doesent seem to ring a bell, i can answer that in two letters N-O NO! OK so here goes, so i went to the library and i for some odd reason i saw a cd by this weird group, "The Flying Burritto Brothers", so i figured it was gonna be a really weird psychedelic band but turns out i was wrong, well sort of. You see these guys are not at all psychedelic there far from it even though they look like from the cover some crazy acid rock band but instead there like a really weird country rock band whose songs are kind of annoying and the vocals have a real whiny pitch too them. So i put the cd in and hear some of the worst country rock music ive ever heard, So uhh yeah dont waste 10 bucks on this crap, oh and disagreements are most welcome.
