I never get tired of listening to Faron Young. He had many, many excellent (and under-appreciated) recordings on Mercury. This sample of his better-known songs only touches the surface of the music in his 26 Mercury albums. Perhaps there will be a Mercury box set some day to complement his Capitol box set.

Yeah, most folks think of the earlier Faron Young, but this selection is outstanding. Faron has few peers, and even fewer imitators; he was that good. His early stuff (and I recommend the 5 cd box set very highly) is what comes to our minds (ie, Hello Walls, Goin' Steady, and Live Fast) when we think of Faron Young; but he was constantly evolving. And this selection covers Faron's move to cover the dying "Bakersfield Sound" being vacated by Buck Owens (after the untimely death of Don Rich). Of course, the smooth and refined voice remains, but the beer-joint sound and those amazing fiddles make this a "must-have" album. Enjoy

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview of his Mercury years, April 10, 2005
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: The Best of Faron Young- Millennium Collection (Audio CD)
This is a very good selection of honkytonker Faron Young's work on the Mercury label, gathering hits from 1964-71. This isn't a period most hard country fans think highly of, but there were still some real gems that came out, and the record's producers cherry-picked the best of them. Definitely worth checking out.

In spring 1964 i visited Nashsville for the first time and as Liverpool singer Gus Travis i must have created some interest and was invited on WSM for a chat.Faron and the gorgeous Margie Singleton were on too promoting their fabulous duet single Keeping Up With The Jones's.Faron and Margie gave me an autographed copy of the single, but i've waited years to get a clean,non-vinyl cut of my favourite Faron track, thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Faron Young "20th Century Masters": A Great Collection of His Later Work., August 15, 2010

I bought this CD for my 88-year-old father, who likes Faron Young's music, and heard a song on the Internet that was only available on this CD ("This Little Girl Of Mine", which was Faron Young's final hit record). Pa really enjoyed that song, as well as the other songs on the CD, which consisted of his work from the mid-1960s until the early 1970s. For a Faron Young fan that wants to hear something other than "Hello Walls" or "Live Hard, Love Fast, And Die Young" (is that the song title?), this is the CD that you want to get for your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some Good Old Songs By Faron, December 23, 2007
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: The Best of Faron Young- Millennium Collection (Audio CD)
I have always enjoyed Faron's songs. I had the pleasure of seeing him in person about a dozen times, and he always put on a great show. Too soon, he decided to leave us...but we will never forget him. The songs on this album are among his best.
