4.0 out of 5 stars I Love T-3's Slo Jams..., July 8, 2004
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection (Jewl) (Audio CD)
....and this one has a decent collection of Tony Toni Tone's slow jams for the listener's dollar. If anything is wrong with this, it would be the MIA slo tunes Slo Wine and HolySmokesandGeeWhiZ. Also, some folks prefer the longer version of Anniversary, but why freak on that when you got the Tonys' Al Green channeling with Thinkin' of You? The only uptempo tune I like of theirs is Feels Good which boasts an adrenaline rushed bassline and memes from those punk funk groups of the 70s. And I almost forgot...an excellent, excellent tune that you almost never hear them play on our classic soul stations--Lay Your Head On My Pillow--true magic, baby. Final verdict:This is a good CD that will embellish your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Collection, February 19, 2008
oh i was blasting the Tonys back in the day. Uno games and Pitchers of Kool-Aid with those TOny, TOni,TOne jams on in the background. they were the last feel Good Band in R&B and that in itself speaks volumes. the Tonys combined New Jack Swing and Modern R&B with Old School Grooves and vibes. this collection has uptempo jams and slow jams which are all holding up really well. tight Production and Overall Instrumentation and there harmonys are on point.

5.0 out of 5 stars UNDERRATED SUPERSTARS, October 8, 2006
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection (Jewl) (Audio CD)
I do not own this compilation, because I already own every CD that 3T created. This group, without question, is one of the most underrated musical groups of all time, probably due to the fact that it did not cross over. If it had, though, the music would not have been as true, or as good. I feel sorry for anyone who cannot appreciate this talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE LAST TRUE R&B/FUNK GROUP WHO COULD PLAY LIVE!!!!, April 16, 2006
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection (Jewl) (Audio CD)
While, everybody was caught-up with the over hype (IMO) Bell Biv Devoe (BBD) Teddy Riley's New Jack sound, alot of other [...] acts, one hit wonder singers and rappers at that time, that all pretty much came and went, Tony Toni Tone' survived, stood the test of time, simply got better with each album/CD.

3T knew how to flip their sound, style, show true
musicianship, artistic form, originality, in which a lot of
so-called groups, that came out on the scene the same time 3T did, were seriously lacking. Of course, we all know 3T was a real, much more mature group. And, for the rest of the forgotten New Jacks? Simply put, they were no more than: "Studio creations" in which 3T was not and that's what makes them the best group to have emerged out of the late 80's and early mid 90's.

To be honest, 3T were the last true R&B, soul, funk, soft rock, retro ballad group to have come out of this era. These brothers could do it all, and on top of that, they could play instruments, perform live and were pretty DAMN GOOD!!!!

My only complaint with this CD is, I wish they could have added a bonus track, like the remix of "Born Not To Know" with the little intro sample of Fatback's "Backstroke" this version is much better than the original one featured on this CD.
But other than that, the CD is really good with all of their best tracks from the late 80's to the early mid 90's.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Just Like Chocolate she's so sweet..., June 2, 2003
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection (Jewl) (Audio CD)
The girl that makes you fantasize...that girl's a beauty queen"
Good times I share with her (trying to make it special)
to keep our love alive
I'm happy I found her ( cause she's my love)
I wouldn't change the world for her!
You're my baby doll
she's the only one that I care for"

Man that song right there "Babydoll" was my JAM back when I was a little pee wee. Boy I remember I used to go Pop Loc Lou on them boys cause I was a serious breakdancer. Tony Toni Tone' used to be my group (they still are...sorta). They had some flava...they had the groove.

"spendin all my time pleasin you...all you ever gave me was the blues"

Dwayne Wiggins had the smoothest voice on this song, "The Blues", and the groove was just simply jammin. This is the perfect breakup song. Man all the joints are on this album; It Never Rains In Southern California, Whatever You Want, the New Jack Swing CLASSIC 'If I Had No Loot'.

"you call me a friend but you only want the hits

and I'll never see you If I had no loot
I'm just glad I'm going through and I'm paying my own bills
and I'll never ever depend on you"
Yep that song was riding.
The rest of the hits are their slow ballads such as 'Anniversary' and 'Lay Your Head ON My Pillow ( and Just Relax)', and the always bumping DJ Quik collaboration 'Let's Get Down'. I wish they had included 'House Party' (I don't Know What You Come To Do)...on this set because that is a rare song that is a classic (It was featured in House Party II)
Nonetheless this is the essential collection that you will need from these boys. Must have.

LOVES IT! I popped this CD in and it instantly brought back feelings of nostalgia. I swear the CD stayed in my car CD player and I listened to it over and over again for a week. The music on this CD are R&B classics and definitely a sign of the times. My favorite song is "Feels Good" and it's just as jammin as the time when I first heard it back in 1990. If you've been thinking of taking memory lane back to your high school days, I recommend you buy this CD today...ASAP! And this is coming from a girl who is a total rock chic - go figure!
