4.0 out of 5 stars Great Guide To This Band, but wish there was more here....
M C A , no longer a holder since 1999 of the Maverick's, decided to honour them with a release of some of their best work. Raul's voice projects better than almost any voice out there. His smooth and thick voice is one to be listened to, whether educational or for enjoyment. Paul Deakin, a first class drummer, doesn't show off like an animal, yet can still pack a whallop...

3.0 out of 5 stars ok...but super colossal smash hits of the 90s was better
This album does contain my favorite Maverick's song, Dance the Night Away, but why would they release another greatest hits album only a year and a half after their last one? Super Colossal Smash Hits of the 90's included 12 tracks, not just 10 and was an even better all around album. If you are a die-hard Maverick's fan, get this album, but if you want a good...

M C A , no longer a holder since 1999 of the Maverick's, decided to honour them with a release of some of their best work. Raul's voice projects better than almost any voice out there. His smooth and thick voice is one to be listened to, whether educational or for enjoyment. Paul Deakin, a first class drummer, doesn't show off like an animal, yet can still pack a whallop in songs like "What A Crying Shame" or touch down teardrops with brushes on his kit in the magnificant "I Should Have Been True". Robert Reynolds also knows how to build a song without overdoing it, like his bouncy-bass in "Dance The Night Away". And Nick Kane is a craftsman, with simple, yet careful skill in the 12 stringed " Here Comes The Rain" or the incredible innovation of patting (instead of strumming)chords in the lullabye version of a classic " Blue Moon". THese guys pack great skill, yet relax on keeping it simple, innovvative.

Sadly, a few essential songs are missed here, like "To Be With You", or "A Better WAy".Nonetheless, A great guide to the Mavericks....

I'm not a big fan of country music, but The Mavericks are a great band. They have a great singer in Raul Malo. It's one of those records you can listen all the way, without having to skip certain tracks. You won't go wrong spending your money in this cd.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Band, Good Album, September 4, 2005

One of the few "modern" bands I can listen to and appreciate. I consider it a mixture of Roy Orbison and Buck Owens; but I'm no fan of Roy. This album is very well recorded and mixed; incredible sounds and dynamics (although I wish the dynamics were a little less on Blue Moon....not one of my favorites). Still, this one is well worth a listen.

The Mavericks have the good fortune of having one of the best, most original singers around. Although he shines throughout this album there is one inexcusable flaw: editing. The catchy (if not exactly deep) "All you ever do is bring me down" has a accordian solo by Flaco Jimenez, which, for some bizzare and unknown reason is edited out of the version on this record. This makes this record unlistenable. Buy the original.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best band, March 25, 2003

What more can be said? Of course, they're my favorite. I've introduced many of my friends to the Mavs and Raul, and they're sold, too. If you don't have this CD, you must add it to your collection.

with a CD full of all the best from one of the best CW bands that came out of the 90s? This greatest hits CD is a superb way for someone who really doesn't want to dive into purchasing individual albums to get a real good listen to this band. I do own them all but since I have a car CD player that only holds one at a time, this is the best way I have to enjoy the Mavs in one good strong dose.
