Great overview!,

If there's only one Elvin Bishop CD to have, it's this one and it cherry picks the best tracks (imo) Bishop recorded during his tenure at Phil Walden's Capicorn Records (1972-78).
Don't expect a re-hash of The Paul Butterfield Blues Band here. Elvin was into soul, chitlin rock and funk with the occasional ballad thrown in during this period, so forget the twelve-bar white boy blues. Bishop was his own man and did what he wanted to do. Good for him and this CDs proof of that.

underrated guitarist!,

Mr bishop, if you are not aware of it, earned his apprenticeship with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. This would lead you to believe that perhaps this is worth the small investment and you would be right. This compilation is from his years with the capricorn label so what you have here is a combination of Blues/Southern Rock and the tunes jump along. A great cd.

FINE AS MOONSHINE!,

ELVIN BISHOP-20TH CENTURY MASTERS MILLENNIUM COLLECTION: Folks who know Elvin Bishop solely due to his 1976 Top Ten pop entry FOOLED AROUND AND FELL IN LOVE (sung by a pre-Starship Mickey Thomas) are missing out on what true fans have long known; the former Paul Butterfield Blues Band axe slinger's real stock in trade is soulful country boy pyrotechnics and a downhome sense of humor. Possessing a homelier set of vocal chords than the ultra-slick Thomas is just a part of Pigboy Crabshaw's earthy charm on cuts like the aptly titled SURE FEELS GOOD. Semi hits include the funk-filled fun of STRUTTIN' MY STUFF and the lively gospel rock of TRAVELIN' SHOES on this overdue career review of his southern rock daze. If you crave more of this fine-as-moonshine performer, check out Elvin's series of bone rattlin' blooze-groover discs on the Alligator and Blind Pig labels. To quote the man his own self, it's all more fun than STEALIN' WATERMELONS!

The Best Elvin Bishop Anthology Ever,

This CD is the best anthology of Elvin Bishop's 70s heyday ever compiled. It features both his bluesier side, as is evident on "Travellin' Shoes", and his more pop-oriented hits such as "Fooled Around And Fell In Love." If you get this one, along with Bishop's CDs on Alligator and Blind Pig and his work with Paul Butterfield, you'll have all the Elvin Bishop you really need.

Where's the Blues? Not here...,
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection (Audio CD)
Looking for authentic blues? You'll need to dig deeper than this guy is capable of delivering. For the real deal, try Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Robert Johnson, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Stevie Ray Vaughan, BB King, Lightnin' Hopkins, Albert King, Jimmy Reed, Paul Butterfield's early years, Clapton, and more... save your money and skip the Elvin Bishop. He's the Jimmy Buffet of blues or whatever.

You Call This Blues?,

I hate this CD. I recently bought this album after finding out that Elvin used to be a member of The Paul Butterfield Blues Band. I have been a big fan of The Paul Butterfield Blues Band for a long time. I thought that this CD would sound similar to the older Butterfield Blues Band albums, but I was very wrong. This CD sounds more like a mix between George Clinton and The Allman Brothers. The sounds that come from this CD are awful. There is no blues feeling in this CD at all. I would not advise anyone to ever buy this CD.
