This review is from: 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Bell Biv DeVoe (Audio CD)
First, let me start by saying I was never a New Edition fan. Those squeaky Ralph Tresvant lead vocals were extremely annoying. When the group disbanded and went their separate ways, it was assumed that Ralph and Bobby would be the most succesful. Then "the other three" formed BBD. They had a very impressive start with "Poison". The song was funky and broke away from the boring, safe New Edition sound. It included the truly immortal line "...never trust a big butt and a smile...". They followed that up with "Do Me!" which included the equally immortal lyrics "...slap it up, flip it, rub it down...". These songs were decidedly NC-17. The third single, "BBD" was OK, but lacked the energy of those first 2 hits. "When Will I See You Smile Again" proved that these boys should avoid ballads and stick with new-jack swing. After that, the boys seemed to fall back into the boring, B-grade R&B that they had done as part of New Edition. Such a promising start only to be squandered on unintersting material. The quality of the CD is good, and it includes their 6 Billboard Hot 100 hits. If you are a BBD fan and want all of their hits on one CD, this is the CD to get. But as far as content goes, only "Poison" and "Do Me!" have stood the test of time.

I must say this is the best CD because I have been looking for a wonderful Cd to rememeber the good old days back when I was in single digit age. The quality is wonderful, I could not ask for anything better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Innovators, April 11, 2004

These tracks were the original fusion of Hip-hop and R&B and
still have tons of flava. After BBD showed the way with these jams, soul singers like Mary J. Blige and R.Kelley started to lay down vocals over hip-hop tracks and everyone else followed
(and still follows to this day).

3.0 out of 5 stars pretty Good for the time period, June 6, 2002
This review is from: 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Bell Biv DeVoe (Audio CD)
back in 90 BBD was doing pretty good for themselves.there songs&Albums represented the Mix of New Jack Swing with Hip-Hop&Pop.a few of there Songs were catchy but as far as given them a Century Salute?? Naw I don't think so.find you a Disc that Captures all the Solo Work of New Edition Combined but this Set has more than what you need.

1.0 out of 5 stars Whatever ???, June 8, 2002
This review is from: 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Bell Biv DeVoe (Audio CD)
You gotta be kidding !! The Best Of Bell Biv Devoe, is a joke, right ?? After 2 CDs on MCA (the recent CD from last year shipped plastic!!!!), they have enough material for a BBD compilation.BBD wasn't a 'legendary' group, like New Edition, so this CD should be given away to customers.
DO NOT PAY for this or any BBD CD!! Most of these dated 80's songs can be found on 'Poison' & thier followup CDs can also be found in cut out bargain bins of most stores!!...
These Millenium CDs from Universal really make me believe that someone is on 'the pipe' over there, and with all of these countless New Edition-Related compilations & anthologies being released, you'd probably agree with me.
My Verdict-This CD is a waste of retail space!!
