5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Music, Excellent Marley!
Bob Marley is the king of reggae. These 10 tracks feature a pre-Island Bob Marley. So, if you want the Island tracks and Island tracks only, get Legend. But if you want a mixed bag of Marley's early music, this would be a nice addition to your Marley collection.

2.0 out of 5 stars What?
There are some good songs on this album, but it is definitely not the best of Bob Marley. Go buy Legend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Music, Excellent Marley!, March 29, 2006

Bob Marley became famous on the Island label. He had numerous hits on that label including Buffalo Soldier, Redemption Song, I Shot The Sheriff, Three Little Birds, Easy Skanking and more. That was Phase 2 of his career. This is Phase 1 - all of the classics from Phase 1 are here. And, 24.bit remastering makes it sound crystal clear!

As it says on the cover, this compilation focuses on the JAD years. These are hits from 1967-1972 released initially and exclusively on the JAD label. It's not the best place to start if you're looking for a complete best of Marley, but it's a great book 1 of a 2 book series of his music.

This CD comes very highly recommended! It's WAY better than the Best Of The Wailers -- a CD that I recommend you avoid.

10 tracks 31:52 total time (admittedly a little skimpy)
Hip-O/JAD records 24.bit remastering spanning his career from 1967-1972. ENJOY!

Any marley compilation with only ten tracks to its name should be considered with the highest suspicion, and this collection proves why. Even for a label-specific collection, it's grossly underwhelming and any reggae-neophyte probably has this stuff already.

Even at this price, it's not worth the money.

If you are a fan of good old Ska : Buy this CD !!!

If you buy a Marley CD you are used to get the good reggae stuff.
But there was a time before reggae - Ska and Rocksteady.

Ska was the precursor to reggae.
In the early 1960s, Ska was the dominant music genre of Jamaica.

You can find Ska records in Bobs house in Kingston/Jamaica as well :
Don Drummond (famous ska trombonist and composer)
The Skatalites (performing till today)

If you like this sound (Bob loved it), take a look at the old records of Prince Buster, Jimmy Cliff and Derrick Morgan as well.

Enjoy !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars worth it, September 26, 2007
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection: The Best of Bob Marley & The Wailers (Audio CD)
if you like marley you should buy this because even though its only ten tracks i've discoverd that most of these tracks aren't on the other greatest hits and its not beacuse they aren't good. even the two disc gold collection doesn't have half these tracks. so in less you own all his albums this is a good buy i recommend this and the legend collection because you only get one overlap in "stir it up".

4.0 out of 5 stars Good collection, September 5, 2004
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection: The Best of Bob Marley & The Wailers (Audio CD)
for the new Fan of Bob Marley's music this is a cool introduction."Stir it up",Soul Rebel,Small Axe, all sound good here. now this isn't as quite strong as "Legend" but it works if you are just starting your Bob marley&the Wailers collection. His Voice,Musicianship&Lyrics just grab you&never let you go.
