5.0 out of 5 stars All sides shown...
The Pointer Sisters are an amazing band. Have a listen to the tracks here and you'll hear the most diverse group in the history of music. It may not have all the hits, but this cd does a good job of showing what an amazing talent they are. Most of the groups Blue Thumb hits are here along with later highlights. If all you know is I'm So Excited... Listen up!

2.0 out of 5 stars VERY mixed bag; only for those who loved Bonnie Pointer!!
This cd tries to give the listener a quick sampling of the diverse approaches the sisters tried through the years, but really falls short of being a satisfying collection. Stick to either the RCA box set or the single RCA 'best of' from 2000.
However, if you liked/loved Bonnie Pointer's solo contributions, (like myself), this may be worth the price of admission...

4.0 out of 5 stars What A Surprise!, October 22, 2006
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection (Audio CD)
I wasn't sure how I would take to this collection due to the omissions of most of the songs that made the Pointer Sisters dance divas of the 1980's. But many folks have forgotten, or were too young at the time to realize that the Pointer Sisters had another decade of hits before the one most remembered. This compilation focuses on much of their early material, as a quartet before sister Bonnie left for a solo career. And the two songs Bonnie was most noted for as a solo artist conclude this collection. Also included are great funk/r&b gems that the Pointers made fab during the 70's like "How Long," "Going Down Slowly," "You Gotta Believe," and "Yes We Can Can." The funk grooves are serious and the gospel flavor in all four voices allow the sisters to make their voices sound like they're adding a new instrument to complete a song. A fantastic compilation awaits here and for those who loved the Pointer Sisterts throughout the 80's, as I did, I encourage you to study how it all began because you'll find how they've always had a wealth of talent combined with a superb musical philosophy.

5.0 out of 5 stars An ecclectic collection!!!, August 1, 2005

Ignore the complaints about what the CD is not. Let me tell you what it is. A great collection of the many different aspects of this wonderful group. Buy the Platinum & Gold Collection together with this and you'll be very glad. Great stuff.

However, if you liked/loved Bonnie Pointer's solo contributions, (like myself), this may be worth the price of admission!! This features her fab hit 'Free Me From My Freedom/Tie Me To A Tree (Handcuff Me)' and the equally fab 12 inch (dance) version of her remake of 'Heaven Must Have Sent You!' These are hard to find, but here they are, remastered and sounding really good.
Still, proceed with caution...

1.0 out of 5 stars Anemic collection -- more Bonnie, please!!, August 12, 2004

This is a very anemic and disparate collection of Pointer Sisters music throughout their career. This hardly does this unique group justice. The only thing that is really special here is the re-release of Bonnie Pointer's solo work. Why doesn't someone just re-release the first two CD's of Bonnie's work on Motown?

If you are looking for the best of the "Pointer Sisters," I suggest you do a search on Yahoo. There are a CD's of the sisters' early work on Blue Thumb, as well as their work with Richard Perry through the 80's. You can also find imports of the sister's best CD's.

Unless you're a die hard fan, like me, and love Bonnie Pointer, that is the only reason to buy this. And for the price, this is not a bad deal. Looks like this is the only place one is going to find Bonnie Pointer on CD right now.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slow Hands, April 13, 2006
This review is from: 20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection (Audio CD)
There is so much you can say about girl groups of the past. While we often think of those definitive ones like Diana Ross & The Supremes, Spice Girls, En Vogue, and recent acts like Destiny's Child, there is one of those groups that really did cross all boundaries during their top of the game. The Pointer Sisters remain as of the most soulful guilty pleasure acts of all time through their classic upbeat Soul and Dance tracks. Unfortunately, that came to a end with the recent tragic death of June Pointer from cancer. While her loss was a blow to the industry, the music she, and her siblings Anita, Bonnie, and Ruth still live on.

20th Century Masters Millenium Collection: The Pointer Sisters is a budget-sized and priced refelection of the girl group through most of their highs and lows throughout the 70's and 80's. The collection reflects mostly on their era through the Blue Note days, while showing some, but not adequately their definitive work with RCA years. Still, the collection does highlight some great tracks including Yes We Can Can, which was used a few years ago for Slim-Fast products, Fairy Tale, and classics like Jump (For My Love), and He's So Shy. The album however does overlook a lot more from their triumphs in the 80's with definitive hits Neutron Dance, Automatic, and smash I'm So Excited weren't at all showcased on this collection which leaves die hard fans a lot more that could've to have been desired.

Unfortunately, the 20th Century Masters Millennium Collection of The Poionters isn't really a definitive record of hits at all. Although it may be good for newcomers to their music, you are just actually better off with the 2000 Best Of The Pointer Sisters collection instead. This collection is really so shy.
