5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite bands, and a truly good cd.
I have followed The Jam since the 70's, and even tho most here in the states didn't get them, I really enjoyed their music. I still listen to them and have followed Paul Weller to this day, but if you have never heard them play before, try them out. I really miss the energy from their music, no one comes close for me. Quite a lot of their music is being re-issued,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Three stars for the music, but not the CD a Jam fan wants to start with
The Jam are a great punk band. Emerging from the U.K. with bands like The Sex Pistols and The Clash, The Jam made some of the finest music of the late seventies and early eighties. Led by Paul Weller, the band created some mighty fine punk.

The Jam are a great punk band. Emerging from the U.K. with bands like The Sex Pistols and The Clash, The Jam made some of the finest music of the late seventies and early eighties. Led by Paul Weller, the band created some mighty fine punk.

Unfortunately, their installment in UMG's '20th Century Masters' shows only part of their greatness. The U.S. version and the Canadian version are very different. This one has 11 songs and lacks plenty of songs. The Canadian version has 12 songs and, to me, is the perfect starter disc.

This is missing WAY too much. The music is five stars, no doubt. But any compilation that lacks their cover of The Kinks 'David Watts' is disappointing. And, how could you have a Jam collection that lacks 'The Eton Rifles'?

The Jam are a great, underrated punk band, and they deserve so much better than this. Do yourself a favor, and pick up either the Canadian import version of '20th Century Masters' or just buy 'Greatest Hits.' Either one is a great way to get started listening to The Jam or if your a casual fan, to get your favorite Jam songs. But just ignore this. Great music, but there needs to be more.
