I was once severely overweight and living a sad life. I had tried every diet book on the shelf and had given up on weight loss and health. In fact, I had given up on life. I had no dreams or goals of my own, and just silently ate myself to death, hoping to one day to simply fade away and out of my misery.


In August of 2003 I was faced a life-changing experience. I sat next to my dad, who was riddled with cancer, and held his hand as he died.
 At that very moment I realized I was mortal and that some day I, too, would die....and I would die without accomplishing anything or helping anyone. My life would not have mattered, and my weight was hindering me from doing things.
So as my father took his last breaths I realized I had had a decision to make: Either stay with more of the same or make a change in my life. I chose change, lost over 80 pounds and became a certified fitness pro, speaker and writer. 
21 Days to Change Your Body is a result of all I have learned, and I hope it makes a difference in your life. Losing weight is both easy and hard. Many of us still struggle with weight loss and maintenance on a daily basis (I know I do). Like many others, I work and raise kids, and often it's hard to find balance and the time to take care of myself.  But I have learned some weight loss and fitness tricks along the way (they are real life, doable ones) that might help you.

This book is incredibly inspirational and well written by someone who also struggled with weight loss. It was hard to put down once I started reading it! My 13 year old daughter got a hold of it and these were her exact words, "This book is so addicting!" Although my daughter does not need to lose weight, she did learn how to make healthier food choices and how to easily fit exercise in daily. What I like most about this book is that it is presented in a way where it's non-intimidating, uncomplicated and extremely informative. 21 Days to Change Your Body is a must for anyone who wants to live a healthy happy life!!!! Bye Bye yo-yo diets, hello to living!!! Thank you Ms Ryan!!!

21 Days is must read for anyone who wants to change their life. This is not just a weight loss book - it is a way of taking back your life. I have read this book twice and know that I will be picking it up again in the future because so much of what she shares can be applied to other areas of life. I personally do not have challenge with weight but found the tools, tips and the ways to improve are so helpful that I could apply much of what is offered here to other parts of my life. Helen's own story and journey to find her way back is not only moving, but filled with light hearted humor and inspiration. This is not `just another weight loss book.' It is, as the back cover states, a fresh new approach to helping people be healthier and happier while losing weight and enjoying life.

I am looking forward to seeing how this benefits others. You can find so many wonderful tools that can help you be
the `You' - you really want to be.

This book, by a woman who has been there, is incredibly inspiring. Unlike many books about losing weight, living healthier, and making changes, 21 Days to Change Your Life is by a writer who has been there, who has fought her way back to health, and who acknowledges that we all screw up now and then...even when we know better. Written in a straight-forward, even funny, voice, the author gives you a kick in the butt while at the same time offering a friendly hug that lets you know that she's been where you are and knows firsthand how hard it is to change. It's like having your own personal cheerleader beside you. The steps outlined here are simple, the difficult part is yours...making the commitment to live a healthier life. The tips I've taken away from this--a very quick and even fun read--are well worth the price of admission. Thank you, Helen Ryan, for the encouragement, guidance, and inspiration.

Helen's book is very inspiring. Helen is my spin instructor at my gym where she makes the class fun! Her book reflects her motivating personality. Helen is different from other coaches who have been in "perfect shape" their whole lives. She knows what it is like to fight your way back to fitness and her book will encourage you as Helen says to "shake things up!" I really like that she breaks her book into small easy to read chapters so having the time to read is never an issue.

Hi Helen just had to share that I have been listening to your book while walking laps at the soccer field. I was so caught up in not having time to get to the gym that I forgot about all the other ways I can get moving! Thank you! I am also relishing in the thought of being able to have more control by not immediately giving into cravings.....thank you for keeping it real.....your book is speaking to my mind my body and my spirit!!! Helen Ryan has been a constant inspiration to me since I met her. I began attending the gym she teaches spin at, NC3 in Murrieta, CA - 3 yrs. ago. She welcomed me at my first spin class ever and inspired me to continue coming to class. Not many people can get me out of bed early on a Saturday morning!!...but I found myself wanting to go "spin with Helen"... if not just to hear a few inspiring words. In the end, I have achieved a body, I never had, not even in High School!

I love the way her book is written. It's so easy to read and understand, and the way it's laid out in days, makes it easy to keep track if there's a section you want to go back to. I had to laugh at her quirky little sayings, the chocolate comments, and many things I've actually heard her say to me over the years. I love that she is able to share her fun methods and ideas with people anywhere using this book! If you ever get the chance to take one of her classes, you will be entertained and probably learn a thing or two. Thanks for inspiring me all these years!!

Let me just state 21 Days to Change Your Body by Helen M. Ryan is a great book and I am sure can and will help many. Helen M. Ryan gives many great tips and ideas throughout the book. I only gave 21 Days to Change Your Body four stars because it was not useful to me in anyway. Helen M. Ryan geared 21 Days to Change Your Body to people with trouble controlling the amount and types of food they eat. I recommend anyone who has this problem to give this book a try.

Well, what to say about Helen M. Ryan? She is a freelance writer, fitness pro, speaker, rock music photographer and an avid chocolate lover.

Helen overcame her own challenge with weight and lost 82 pounds after struggling for most of her life. She became a certified fitness pro to help others change their small step at a time.

She believes in trying new things and living life - not "waiting for tomorrow." Helen speaks to groups (including schools) to inspire them to find their own passions and follow their dreams. It's her own version of YOLO, per se, except it's YOLO with consideration for others (for those of you without teenage children, YOLO means You Only Live Once.)

As a freelance writer, Helen has covered everything from business and entertainment, to travel, food and fitness (OK and clothes hangers. She has indeed written about clothes hangers).

A single mom who at one point had to recycle bottles to buy gas to take her kids to school, Helen wants to help other women avoid the same challenge. She founded a nonprofit, Reignite Inc., that helps women gain and improve skills to assist them with re-entering the workforce or to build their own businesses.

In her 'free' time, Helen interviews rock stars and photographs rock concerts. She still teaches Spinning® classes, which is her love--and one of the things that truly helped save her life (and lets her eat chocolate). Helen lives in California, and has two awesome teenage children.
