Music Doesn't Get Any Better Than This!,
By Lorelei Walker (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 21 Hits Collection (Audio CD)
Maybe I'm a tad nostalgic or maybe the term "fun music" is unheard of these days but "The Osmonds 21 Hits" is pure fun! Toe-tapping melodies, easy on the ears vocals combined with rock the house orchestration! It is a pleasure to pop this CD in and sing along with hits like "Down By The Lazy River," "Double Lovin," and "Chilly Winds." And when my five year old son asks to hear "Crazy Horses" over and over..well..what does that tell you?

Fantastic-covers most of the hits,
By A Customer
This review is from: 21 Hits Collection (Audio CD)
I was extremely happy with this cd. It covered most of the hits and some that were just the best on certain albums that weren't the hotest on the charts. I was really looking for THE PLAN but this album had some of the songs off of THE PLAN. I was told that THE PLAN is not available yet, when it does I would wish to be first in line to buy it.

Donny Osmand is like a mature adult,

Donny Osman,What a cutie. He acts like he's been their done that when in actuality he is only about ten or eleven when he makes this song. His voice finishes the group. I was moved to tears when i first heard him sing in the abc movie Inside The Osmonds. He has an incredible voice and i wish that i could have been alive during his golden years. I would have been one of his biggest supporters. This cd rocks!

The music industry will never see this much talent again,
By A Customer
This review is from: 21 Hits Collection (Audio CD)
Basically, my summary says it all. The Osmonds are so incredibly gifted. When most kids were learning their ABC's, the Osmonds were dancing, singing, schooling AND appearing on a weekly TV show all at once! Let's not forget their ages as well. I mean, Alan-eight, Wayne-six, Merrill-four and Jay--only two! And then Donny, Marie and Jimmy all followed at the ages of three.(True, Donny only became a pro at five but dear God can you imagine that?)From the earliest days, the strongest points about them were their harmonies. Who can forget them? This CD brings them straight to you! Each brother's ability to go from a low, 21 yr old male voice to a high sounding 12 yr old voice was amazing--especially when the singer could have been between 21(Big Al) and 12(Donny)!Their talent is incredible and the CD puts it together masterfully. However, there is always SOMETHING negative about anything. This C.D.'s only downfall is the fact they have Jay and Donny(Who are 2 1/2 yrs apart) born less than 9 mos from each other. Also, they could have used some more pictures in the slip and stories as well. All in all buy the C.D. It's worth it just to have Donny sing to you! :o)

MUST-HAVE FOR OSBROS FANS,
By Karen (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 21 Hits Collection (Audio CD)
Definitely a must-have for OsBros fans!! I thought I'd never hear these great songs again as my old LPs have too many skips in them due to playing them over and over again back in the '70s. "Love Me For A Reason" is my all-time favorite. No one sings quite like Merrill. Alan sings a rare solo on "What Could It Be" which was never a chart hit but I always loved it. "Having a Party" is a fun tune. My little ones love singing along to "I'm Still Gonna Need You" and "Yo-Yo." (I never thought Alan, Wayne and Merrill got enough credit as terrific songwriters.) All these great songs and more on one CD!

All The Hits !,
By
This review is from: 21 Hits Collection (Audio CD)
This CD has all of the songs most associated with The Osmond Brothers...."One Bad Apple" is here, as well as "Yo Yo" and "Down By The Lazy River", and even songs such as the beautiful "At The Rainbow's End" and the folk/rock nugget "Chilly Winds". All in all a great one for long time fans like myself, or those who just want a fun blast from the past. This is the best Osmond Brothers hits collection out there.

The River might be Lazy, but the music isn't!,
By
This review is from: 21 Hits Collection (Audio CD)
The Osmonds were solid contributors to the pop/rock industry of the early 70s. From the bubblegum mantra of One Bad Apple to the environmental protest (that's right, the Osmonds actually did a protest song!) of Crazy Horses, the group's talent and versatility put them at or near the top of the charts again and again.Where this disc is particularly interesting is in its inclusion of some lesser known but very good music. The movie theme Chilly Winds (from Pretty Maids All in a Row) is a catchy tune that will run through your mind incessantly. The hard-rock entry Traffic in My Mind shows a side of the quintet that few casual fans even knew existed. For sheer lyrical beauty, listen to That's My Girl or At the Rainbow's End. For pure musical fun, the disc includes the hit Down By the Lazy River and the album cut We're Havin' a Party. After listening to this album, those who are only familiar with the Osmond's major chart hits will understand why the group's following was as enthusiastic and loyal as any other rock fans of the period. The Osmond's were an incredibly talented, incredibly versatile family of singer/musicians, and this is one incredible collection of their material. Highly recommended!

Overall, a fine collection from their most successful era,
By John Cannon (Chesterfield, MO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 21 Hits Collection (Audio CD)
This collection of hit songs by the Osmond Brothers (as they were known at the time) is an adequate 'Greatest Hits' package from their most popular recording period (1971-1975) when the group had a hit animated television series and rivaled many recording acts for the teen-age market. It wasn't uncommon to see Donny's picture on the cover of '16' alongside that of David Cassidy and Bobby Sherman. Although "One Bad Apple,""Yo-Yo," and "Down By the Lazy River" were their best known songs from that era, this collection includes songs like "The Proud One," and "I'm Still Gonna Need You" which, I feel, have aged better than their biggest hits and feature the group's exquisite harmonies to the fullest. I agree with the reviews that mention the quality of the recordings, which varies throughout the CD ("I'm Still Gonna Need You" sounds like it was recorded from an old cassette tape!); for this reason, I've 'docked' the CD one star. For those of us whose only understanding of the Osmond Brothers begins with this era (I was 10 in 1971), we have never been exposed to most of their appearances on The Andy Williams Show or their albums from the early 1960's (before Donny was old enough to join the group). A few of their appearances have made it on to Andy Williams Show retrospectives; all of their appearances should be released to the public on CD and DVD; younger kids need to see and hear music from talented individuals that was made prior to the vulgarity that passes for popular music today. The Osmonds had talent to burn - this CD is a wonderful place to start!

A good collection but could have been better!,
By A Customer
This review is from: 21 Hits Collection (Audio CD)
This is proably the best Osmonds one-disc collection on CD you can get your hands on unless someone like Universal or Rhino can get the rights and do an more extensive job. I take this one over the skimpy 12 song best-of and the overdone Osmonds box set. At least it has most of the 1970-4 hits that made them world famous and has several fine album tracks from thier 1973 MGM album "Crazy Horses". I wish they could have added "The Drum" "Business" (from Part 3) and thier version of "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" from the first album. Someone complained about the sound quality but these tracks sound fine to my ears, they were using analog equipment back then so none of these songs has that digital punch we expect from modern recordings. A lot of 70's recordings sound "wimpy" now, especally singles mixed for AM radio.

Great album for the all time fan,
By
This review is from: 21 Hits Collection (Audio CD)
What an album with a great list of songs. From "One Bad Apple" to "I Can't Live A Dream". If you are an Osmond fan or were one back in the early and mid 70's, this is for you. Since The Osmonds didn't release any of their earlier albums on CD, this does help all of us who wanted to hear "Down By The Lazy River" without scratches and hear it digital. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was that the production of some of the songs isn't that great on it. It's like they turned up the mids and bottom end of the EQ on the later songs on the album. However, it is a great album and fun to listen to. Especially if your a musician and they are or were you first musical influences like they were for me. Jay rocks on drums and Merrill's voice rocks. Can't ask for more.
