Wonderful Art, definitely a 'kaleidoscope",

This review is from: 21: The Story of Roberto Clemente (Hardcover)
The art for Clemente is fantastic. Santiago does a beautiful job illustrating the characters of the stories and the images of baseball in action. The landscapes of Puerto Rico are wonderful and the page layout is modern and interesting. As a piece of art, this book easily deserves 5 stars and I would absolutely recommend it to any baseball fan, artist, or graphic novel enthusiast. My only complaint is that the story is overly fractured, and skips over pivotal moments in Clemente's baseball and philanthropic careers. Overall, a nice little book that would make an excellent addition to any graphic novel or baseball library.

Calling all Baseball Fans & Humanitarians,
This review is from: 21: The Story of Roberto Clemente (Hardcover)
This beautifully illustrated and captivating book is appropriate both for adults and for adolescents alike. As a long-time baseball fan and humanitarian, I really resonated with Clemente's story. What great role modeling Clemente provides for young people.

Beautiful illustrations, and a really nice synopsis of the great Roberto Clemente's life inside and outside of baseball. Must-read for baseball fans, and Pirates fans in particular.

I am giving this five stars because my 10 year old son is so hard to buy books for. He has not put this down for 45 minutes straight and still going. I will leave another review after I read it myself. ;-)

Great art, not a great storyline,

Very original ideas for a biography. However, I read it with my 11 year old son, and it was impossible for him to keep up. The story jumped around so much (another reviewer used the perfect word "fractured",) that my son, and often I, couldn't tell where or when we were. The story has Roberto as a kid, then a page later on a pro team but near retirement age, then a page later in puerto rico but much older , then in the U.S,then who knows where, and who knows what age. It was more "the art show of" than "the story of" Clemente. Seems like the author had a cool graphic in mind, and forced it into the book, even though the flow of the story line didn't allow it. 5 stars for the artwork, and 1 star for the way it was arranged gives this book 3 stars.

This book is a beautiful, engaging, and moving account of Clemente's remarkable life. I'm not normally a graphic novel fan but it was recommended to me and I was blown away. Santiago's narrative is fantastic and his artwork is incredible. A must for baseball fans!

A lovely, lively look at one of the greats of the game. Author Santiago personalizes a complex man, one who played with unsurpassed intensity on the field. A terrific read.
Highly recommended for all readers.

I did not realize it was written in comic book style. I was purchasing it for my 54 year old son, so it was not his style. I went to Ups and returned it, so I hope that you received it and will credit my account for the purchase amount. Thanks, Judy
