Product Description

The Puma Gold Series 4-Star Stag horn knives are made in Solingen, Germany and have long set the standard for the ultimate hunting knife. Whether for skinning, capping or general work, Puma knives are the best you can get. The stag handles are formed from the shed antlers of Wild Stag Deer and each stag-handled knife is truly unique, one-of-a-kind tool. Each scale (handle) is boiled, stretch and dried over a period of weeks. It is then individually cut and hand fitted to your knife. Depending on the model, brass rivets are then used to attach the scales to the knife and they are welded together. The rivet heads are then filed and finally burnished off for the best fit and function imaginable. While this old-fashioned manufacturing method is more expensive, this is the way to make a one-of-a-kind knife.

Having owned their knives for many years, I thought I knew what I was getting when I ordered a Puma. Boy, was I wrong!!! I looked at several models of small Puma folding knives offered on Amazon.
I knew I didn't want anything that wasn't handmade in Solingen, Germany. I picked this one expecting a "Puma" level of quality.
What I got was third rate fit & finish. The blade was haphazardly ground with an irregular edge and off-kilter point.
It had a "hit & miss" polish that was mostly miss. The proud Puma badge had glue drips leaking out from under.
Totally disappointed, I sent it back to KnifeCountryUSA.

This is a sharp-looking knife that holds an edge really well. After about two months of use, I still haven't sharpened it. It still has the factory edge that it came with. I also like the feel of the stag antler grips because they don't slip and the length is almost perfect for the size of my hand.

I'm taking away one star because the locking mechanism is a bit hard to operate. Although it certainly feels like it wouldn't ever unlock accidentally, it's also a bit hard to unlock when you want it to. I will follow up if it gets easier after a period of breaking in. Also, I think some of the rivets on the handle could have been ground down a little more, even though both handle and blade seem very solid.
