The best new blues album I've heard in years! This is what blues lovers have been waiting for. A new giant talent to turn the world on for the millenium, like Stevie Ray Vaugn in the 80's. Listen carefully and you'll hear the progression of R&B from the earliest vinyl out of the Delta to the sound of blues and soul in decades to come. Murali Coryell (the son of famous jazz guitarist Lary Coryell) has it all. I'll match his voice with anyone and his guitar playing's right up there with Stevie Ray and Buddy Guy. If you're into the blues, you MUST get this CD. If you're into soul, check out "Sexual Healing," Murali's cover of the Marvin Gaye classic. No hit or miss tracks here, they all pay off. This is one new artist that totally delivers your money's worth.

I had the extreme pleasure and privelege of attending week-long blues/R&B classes with Murali Coryell for the past two summers at the National Guitar Workshop in New Milford, Connecticut. I got the chance to first get to know Murali as a friendly, nice, genuine person with a love for music and an eagerness to give his music to other people. Then I bought his 2120 album and slowly realized that in addition to being a great person, Murali is a great musician in all regards. His singing, guitar playing, and songwriting have a rare honesty, integrity, and strong emotion not seen in music today... he's a true bastion of real soul and blues music, right up there with any of the greats.

I strongly recommend this great CD if you're looking for honestly emotional music. Showcasing Murali's agressive guitar playing and powerful voice equally, this recording masterfully evokes the same emotion of that of any other great blues artist, and will restore your faith in genuine, uncompromised soul music.

If you get the chance, try to see Murali live, where he excels even further, and try to find his earlier 1995 debut, Eyes Wide Open. Look out for Murali Coryell, he IS a great musician on the rise, and we'll definitely be seeing more of him in the future.

I saw Murali play at a club down in Greenwich Village and was blown away! His great guitar tone and soulful voice coupled with Bill Foster's driving bass lines and Rod Gross' tight drumwork kept my undivided attention the whole night. Nice job especially on the cover of Marvin Gaye's classic "Sexual Healing". I got the record and it's as good as their live show! Having always been partial to the stories the blues have to offer, I'm happy to see the Chess family back in the record business with Murali. Hope to see him play again soon!

Murali is arguably the most soulful contemporary guitarist alive.

He has unparalleled rythym and harmony sense no matter what form of music he touches.

If you love blues, jazz, and/or fusion, this is a MUST purchase.

The "raw" recording techniques, in the best tradition of CHESS (now CZYZ) make the album feel like the great recordings of the 60s like Hendrix and Clapton. Murali has the kind of magic of them, BB King, and Stevie Ray Vaughan all rolled into one!

What a relief! So many kids have been coming down the pike these past few years with a Strat, some hair, a few hot sidemen and a completely contrived view of the form.Murali Coryell is the genuine article. The feeling is there, the songs are there and there's just the right amount of space between the notes to let you know that it truly does come from the heart. This record deserves to be on your shelf right there with Robert Johnson and John Lee Hooker. Outsdanding. Now, if only I could get it on vinyl.

Turn it up -- it's a party! "That's How It Is (When You're in Love)" is one of those songs that makes my whole body sing. And the rest of this album is darn good too.

I just saw Murali open up for Thorogood and the Destroyers at Higher Ground in Winooski-- All I have to say is wow. He was wailing his heart out three feet from me. He said that he was going to play a song that was about falling in love. Being right there, I askd him what it was like. He said I was going to find out and he proceeded to blow me away. I got goosebumps. What a show!

This CD starts out like an alarm clock which wakes you up after sleeping all day! And a listen will get you into the mood for another night of partying! Just remember to bring the CD with you when you go to the party, so others can shake their hips to it. The voice and guitar of the lead singer blend together and bounce off each other at the right times...This is a party album for ALL sexes.

As all of the above have said, Murali is a true genius of the genre. A must have for any blues collection...catch him live if you ever have the chance!
