The "workbook" edition I received was nothing like the more comprehensive collection of problem solving activities I was expecting. (The cover also does not match the cover of the book advertised.) If you order this, be aware that you will receive only 45 activities, based on animal themes, which are not even reproducible as promised in the editorial review. Instead of a focus on math and problem solving, the kids are directed to draw animals such as a stag, a doe, a rooster, and a bull. I'm sure the math will be completely lost in the unreasonable drawing tasks. Bottom line, check the ISBN of the more comprehensive book of reproducible problem solving tasks with the same title and don't bother to order this.

This product is excellent practice for 3rd grade or even higher, giving students a lot of problem solving confidence.

That's how I found the version with over a hundred pages. I went to the Pearson site to check it out. That might be another recourse for people looking for the proper book.

The other two reviews of this item are reviewing the preschool version. This version is for third grade, has a problem for every day of the school year. I have used this product in my third grade classroom for years and now use it with my esl kids. The problems are well written (for the most part) and allow multiple ways to problem solve and cover the essential strands of math for this age group. WHICH IS NOT AGES 4-8 WHICH IS STATED ON THE AMAZON SITE. I recently bought the upper grade addition to use with my 6th graders and was very happy with it also.

I have used this book for several years with Special Education students of all grade levels, elementary through high school. In Arkansas students have to take yearly "benchmark" tests. A big part of the test is open response questions that require students to show how they solved the problem and explain in words how they solved it. They are allowed to use any method of solving, including drawing a picture to solve. They are required to keep their work confined to a box on the page. I find that this book is an exellent resource for teaching students how to solve problems by drawing the solution. It also provides a box to work out the problem on. This is good practice for the test requirements to keep the work in the box. There is one problem per day in the book. The problems can be presented in the order that they are printed in the book (dificulty gradually increases through the book.) Or you can skip around and use problems that go along with skills you are working on in your class. You can use the pages as a "bell work" warm up for the day, or as a fun way to wrap up at the end of class. There are blank pages that you can use to create your own problems in the same format. The only modification that I have had to make to the book is that I have gone through the book and used white out on the grade level printed at the bottom of every page. This keeps kids from knowing that they are doing 3rd grade level work in high school. I would recomend that teachers purchase all the grade levels. They make excelent work for students at all levels of functioning.

I bought the third grade edition several years ago. At the time I could not locate other grade levels (maybe they were added to the series later, I don't know.) I am delighted to see that there are several grade levels available and am ordering all the other books in the series. There are some books that I purchase with school Purchase Order money and some that I purchase with my own money. Books purchased with PO money have to be left behind in the classroom when I transfer to another school. Books purchased with my own money can go with me to any school that I am transfered to. This series of books is on the list to be purchased with my own money. They go with me wherever I teach, whatever grade level I am assigned to, year by year.

I have purchased another read It, Draw It, Solve It before for 1 and 2 grade. It can be used in a workstation or as homework or morning work. I use it for my second grade children that are above level or on level. It provides problem solving and higher level thinking.

I was excited when I bought the book, but was a bit disappointed when it arrived. It doesn't seem to be challenging enough for what I want to teach in math. It might work as a filler when having a substitute. It's well written but not challenging enough.

I would like to be able to review this item, but that would not be fair to the author, because Amazon shipped the WORKBOOK instead of the TEXTBOOK which had been ordered.
