An Inspirational Read,
By A Customer
This review is from: 21st Century Mage: Bring the Divine Down to Earth (Paperback)
"21st Century Mage: Drawing Down the Divine" is an exciting new book that invites us to make contact with our "Holy Guardian Angel," our unique personal connection with higher planes of consciousness. New author Jason Augustus Newcomb has reinterpreted the 15th century text, "The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage," into a relevant program for contemporary spiritual seekers. Mr. Newcomb's book offers a completely modern approach to the mysticism and magic of Abramelin. Cutting to the core of the "Abramelin" system, "21st Century Mage" describes for the reader many tools and methods from yoga meditation to ritual magick for getting in touch with the personal genius, "Holy Guardian Angel," or tutelary spirit that is each person's connection with universal consciousness.According to Newcomb, with this connection a person is in touch with his or her own unique creative intelligence and divine knowledge. So few of us are even aware of our own divine genius. Mr. Newcomb feels that genius is the prerogative of all human beings and this book offers several approaches to making the connection with one's own divine genius within the context of Abramelin's system. Newcomb's hip, non-denominational interpretation of Abramelin, yoga, magick and spirituality in general requires only an openness to creating a deeper connection and relationship with the universe and a yearning for a greater understanding of the mysteries of life. If you've ever wanted to obtain enlightenment, but aren't interested in wearing saffron robes and giving away flowers at the airport, this might be the book for you. Newcomb describes himself as a skeptical and pragmatic mystic. In the book he explains that everything from overeating to drug abuse are all misplaced yearnings for the connection with higher consciousness called, "The Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel." Newcomb calls upon diverse sources to elucidate his modern mystical hypotheses. In this book you'll find quotes from many places such as "The Spiritual guide" of Christian mystic Miguel de Molinos to ubiquitous quotes from the Victorian drug mystic Aleister Crowley. Newcomb offers exercises and ideas from all of these sources to create a very thorough plan for spiritual awakening. The book is very readable and should be interesting to anyone from the curious to the deeply immersed in the Western Mysteries.

Awesome job describing the abramelin in modern times,

This review is from: 21st Century Mage: Bring the Divine Down to Earth (Paperback)
Newcomb does a fantastic job on explaining the Abramelin Operation of how to go about obtaining the Knowledge and Conversation of your Holy Guardian Angel. He takes all of the garbage out of the preparations and techniques. He gives a good description of 10 ways of achieving your goal which are very good even though they are basic. It is a perfect modern guide to the beginner interested in the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage. Highly Recommended!

Very down to earth book on a very important subject,
By
This review is from: 21st Century Mage: Bring the Divine Down to Earth (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book as I was not quite sure how to approach the abramelin book. For example, in the old book it talks about cleanliness, giving advice on how we should bath once a week to be pure. Obviously, 500-some years ago, people didn't have alot of water and using it to bath daily(like most modern city people do)well, once a week was more often than those folks were accustomed to. So I like that this book explains that we don't really have to follow that book down to the letter, as most of it is very Christian anyway, and as any practicing occultist would know, angels are NOT confined to Christian/Jewish beliefs, and that the HGA is most probably not even an angel at all.
I like this book very much and reccomend it to anyone who has already read the three books of abramelin the mage, and would like a modern interpretation of it. I've just ordered "New Hermetics" by this same author and I'm sure it's great. It basically modernizes "Initiation into Hermetics" by Franz Bardon, so if you've had trouble reading that book too, get this new book as it uses common-sense easy to understand language. Visit the authors website to get previews of that book.

Simply brilliant!..,

This review is from: 21st Century Mage: Bring the Divine Down to Earth (Paperback)
This could have been a much longer book and sometimes I wish it was.
The author has a clear grasp on the subject of western mysticism and makes it clear to the reader. And this is no small task. Just his description alone of what the Knowledge and Conversation is with the Holy Guardian Angel makes this book worthy reading. But, even more, he's quite clear about the various approaches to meeting that objective, including straightforward devotion (often overlooked). I hope this one stays in print for a while to give people a chance to discover it. The simple smart writing style is interesting (which is something often missing from works like this). I often re-read it because of its wisdom. A great addition to my library.

A new effective look on the abramelin operation,
This review is from: 21st Century Mage: Bring the Divine Down to Earth (Paperback)
The book delivers what it promises: a modern look on the abramelin operation and the possible procedures involved in obtaining the so called knowledge and conversation with your Holy Guardian Angel, samadhi, or whatever your label of choice is for this ineffable experience you are after. Just like "The New Hermetics" (another title by the same author which I sincerely recommend for those with an interest in magick and/or NLP...and how big is the difference between the two after all?), 21st Century Mage keeps an eye on the past and tradition, while at the same time cutting through whatever may be superfluous, and keeping a very effective, non-dogmatic, outcome-oriented attitude. If you have a general interest for the abramelin operation and are after a good read, or if you are looking for the book that finally makes it sound feasible, explains how, and spurs you to seriously invest your time to DO IT, 21st Centruy Mage definitely has its place on your bookshelf.

Abremelin operation for contemporaries!,
By
This review is from: 21st Century Mage: Bring the Divine Down to Earth (Paperback)
This is an amazing book. It simplifies a lot complex Abremelin teachings and methods of invoking the HGA. It is a common sense approach to contemporary Abremelin workers. If you have the original title, "Sacred Magick of Abremelin the Mage", this book can certainly work as an adjunct to understanding the original work much better. I give it 5 stars and wait for more titles by Mr. Newcomb.

This book had a great deal of information. Being that I have been studying magick and the oocult for over 8 years, I did not really learn anything new. However if you are new to this subject (magick)this book would be a great starting point.
