Not a Resource for Law Enforcement,

This review is from: 21st Century Policing: Community Policing: A Guide for Police Officers and Citizens (Paperback)
This book reads like a series of articles one would find in a free local shopper newspaper. Many of the chapters are only a page or two long, and none of the ideas presented are explored in any detail. The book presents some common sense ideas about community policing, but these ideas are so basic any entry level criminal justice text will cover them.

This book is one of the best I have seen in print. It is easy for the average citizen to read. It is filled with good ideas, thoughts, and concepts about community policing. -Well done! Does the author have other books? Good start-up for police officers and citizens who want to bring their local police and residents together. Thanks.

The review from Nov 2001 hit it on the head. Formulaic, although easy to read. Yes, some good info, but very simplistically presented. Also, a bit of an ego issue here as the author apparently feels his philosophical musings carry the same weight as Plato or Lincoln. Along the same lines, it is AMAZING how many ground-breaking community police initiatives were apparently newsworthy from the community of Nutley, New Jersey (the one the author happens to hail from).

I recommend this book for criminal justice majors. It is easy to read and most of all a valuable tool for citizens and police officers to use in their efforts to initiate community policing programs in their community. I read one of the above reviews where the rater states that this book is not a value to police. How WRONG she is! I am a police officer and members of my department found this book to be the "Basic Training" of our community policing programs. WELL DONE!
