Treasure chest of ideas..., November 22, 2008
This review is from: The 21st Century Pro Method - Blues Guitar: Rural, Urban and Modern Styles (Paperback)
First of all, you will learn something new by anything Don Latarski produces. This man creates good music and great learning material.
Okay, I'm an experienced player and when I buy something I usually get things that will take me into new places. I can't really say this book is a HOW TO kind of book. Instead, I'll say that this book is full of ideas and that's the kind of thing I look for.
I really don't care to play like anyone else so I shun books that show me how to play in this person's style or that person's style. And this book doesn't do that. I think it will let you be you. Best of all, it has LOTS of ideas. You could probably find all the things in this book on the internet somewhere but you'd spend a long, long time finding it and even if you found it, unless you knew what it was, it would be useless.
If you have some chops and you are looking to get into blues, start here. Go page by page and let Don show you what's in the blues. And, so you know, there's more to the blues that three chords and five (maybe six) notes, and Don shows you lots of jumping off places for your own enjoyment or research.
Get it.

a complete course, May 12, 2005
This review is from: The 21st Century Pro Method - Blues Guitar: Rural, Urban and Modern Styles (Paperback)
This book covers a complete course in the blues. Organized into units the book is a little big extensive for a beginning guitarist, but is an excellent tool for growing as a musician. This book covers all the basics and with a little bit of creativity you can extend its teaching, for example from turn around A or E to a turn around in any key, etc. The chord tones are shown in the Key of E for the I, IV and V chord but with a bit of work you can discover then in all the other keys and positions, the important thing is the exposure to the ideas. This book covers a plethora of ideas and was a great purchase.

Absolute Genius - Stands WAY ABOVE other blues guitar books, DVDs, etc, January 8, 2012
This review is from: The 21st Century Pro Method - Blues Guitar: Rural, Urban and Modern Styles (Paperback)
What is so amazing is the incredibly melodic sounds he puts together and he shows you how YOU can be MUCH more melodic in your improvising. With all too many instructors, they demonstrate musically important technical ideas in often somewhat dry guitar playing that may have 50 notes, 0-12 of which stand out as special. I'd rather have ideas played in examples that send chills down my spine in which EVERY NOTE COUNTS AND IS ESSENTIAL and let me apply it to my playing asap. He instructs to make every single note count and have emotion invested into each and every note. You can REALLY hear him do it in his examples, even those that you would have scoffed at as being too simple by looking at the tab alone. When every note counts, you can really hear and feel the emotions and sounds of different juxtapositions of notes against chords, notes within a certain measure, notes within the total composition, etc. It's a shame that books like "Blues you can use" etc. are getting much more reviews and buyers when this is the real deal people are really looking for. If you are lucky enough to have stumbled across this book, you are fortunate to have found the hidden gem amongst blues guitar books. Buy it if you have decided that Blues is something you are interested in.
