5.0 out of 5 stars 220V to 110V 50W converter
Have only used this once. The construction seems solid and it performed as needed. It is small/compact so it doesn't take up too much room.

2.0 out of 5 stars Voltage converter
The problem with the converter is that is will not fit into the round European outlets. One needs an additional adapter plug that extends the "square" converter to fit into the round receptacle. This is not a serious problem since these "extenders" are inexpensive. But have one on hand since the converter can not be used w/o one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Voltage Converter Review, December 16, 2009

This review is from: New 220V to 110V Step Down Voltage Converter 50W Travel (Electronics)
I recently bought the 220v to 110v step down voltage converter for use during my vacation in Northern Ireland. The product is well made and is of high quality. There is a problem though as the two (2) pin round prong plug cannot fit in the conventional three (3) pin square socket outlet. For the item to be of any use I had to use another adaptor with a three pin square prong and then to plug the two pin to it.

Another word of caution though, is that some people simply buy universal adapators for use in Europe for USA 110v appliances. This practice is not recommended since in Europe the voltage is 220 and can cause damage plus a fire risk by plugging an adaptor without a STEP DOWN VOLTAGE CONVERTER.

The transformer was dismantled after 10 minutes of using (after heating - was connected to 220Vac input).
The product is not doing the requested job - I just plug in it to 220Vac and after 10 minutes it's just heated and dismantled.

I bought this converter to use in Italy. The second day we used it, it burned up and fell apart. I was charging a phone and a computer. I was lucky that it did not start a fire and burn the hotel. The quality was not what I expected. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

I read a few reviews and noticed that some people had problems. I bought it anyway and works fine. We use it for electric tooth brush, cellphones and similiar things. I can't complain so far. Very good price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Useable, but, May 31, 2010
This review is from: New 220V to 110V Step Down Voltage Converter 50W Travel (Electronics)
As pointed out by another reviewer, the 2-pin European plug won't plug into a continental wall outlet without a European-to-European plug adapter/extender. To use in the UK you'll need a European-to-UK plug adapter. I found that US plugs don't fit tightly into this transformer so you may need to tape the plug to the transformer to maintain connectivity. You can see that a US plug with a ground pin won't plug into the transformer so you'll need a US-to-US plug adapter for that as well. The manufacturer recommends not using this transformer for extended periods of time to prevent overheating.
