Book Description

February 1, 2004
"Just" is vibrant, electric poetry joined by equally adept and rich artwork—a molding of word and image that makes the already superbly written poems bounce up off the page. The result is a combination of artistry and talents that could easily stand on their own.

That is, if they didn't work so well together.

About the Author

Justin McBride has been writing poetry and stories for many years. But the early stuff probably isn't so good. That's why it's not available here. He went back to school in Fall 2004 and surfaced three years later with a law degree after a stint as Executive Editor of the Seattle Journal for Social Justice. He may use his law degree as it is intended to be used, but he very likely may not. Justin is currently writing mostly true stories about his sordid youth and early adulthood. "Just" is his first book. He lives in Seattle.
Krista Brayko is an architect and graphic designer who, despite such talents, returned to graduate school in 2005 to complete a naturopathic medical degree. She is learning about the horrors of various infections while also gaining invaluable knowledge about a vast array of healing techniques. Soon, her photo/graphic skills might be overshadowed by her massive medical brain, but Krista promises to continue to call upon her plentiful artistic skills, even after she's a fancy doctor. Maybe even WHILE she's being a fancy doctor. She lives in Seattle.

5.0 out of 5 stars just 'cause, May 19, 2006
This review is from: "Just" (Paperback)
How shall I say this? Read this and be reminded that you haven't heard it all yet; that you haven't outgrown surprise; that words on a page can break you open. Be reminded that presentation matters, that fonts can be clever, and that the square-shaped book has been greatly neglected. Finally, be reminded that Bukowski is not enough, that Dylan is not enough, that Dickinson and Sandburg and Plath are simply not enough. We need more . . . let us for McBride.

5.0 out of 5 stars outstanding poetry, November 11, 2007

This is great poetry. A truly unique form and beautiful layout/artwork. You can read a few poems and want to reread before reading the rest! What's up with so many PBR fans going for this book? It should be linked to the likes of Sherman Alexie.
