Danceable with catchy lyrics,
By Catwoman (Indianapolis, IN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 22b3 (Audio CD)
Ever since I saw the video for "Hanging on a Heart Attack" way back in the 80's, I wanted this CD. Even after all these years, I have never been able to forget the song or the video! Now, I finally have the CD and was it ever worth the wait! I listen to it in the mornings while I'm getting ready for work and the catchy lyrics stick in my head all day! Every song makes you want to sing, dance, or move in some way, shape, or form. The whole CD is full of life and energy. Something else I like is that the songs don't really have an "80's" sound, not that the 80's sound was bad, because I personally think the 80's music was fantastic. Music then was so spirited, upbeat, and fun...much like this CD!

An All-Time Favorite,
By
This review is from: 22b3 (Audio CD)
This is one of my all-time favorite albums. Not a single bad track on it. I still have my 1986 CD and use it to make copies so that I will always have one. I can't believe this group never became a big success. Could it be that the somewhat bizarre title was an obstacle?

Device - rediscovered and loving it!,

I recently moved to Las Vegas and, lo and behold, they had an 80s station! Yes, 80s music, 24 hours a day...I'm in heaven! While listening one day, I heard "Hangin' on a Heartattack" and I thought, I have that cassette. So I drug out my cassettes and listened. I forgot how truly wonderful this band was. After listening to the cassette and being saddened by what time had done to its quality, I purchased a CD from eBay, which I paid through the nose for! It was worth every penny!
"Who Says" is my favorite on the disc, eventhough it was not released as a single. The rhythmic drums, chorus vocals, guitar lick and lyrics make this a sure winner. This band had such great potential, but they never "broke through" and then disbanded. At least I have a piece of musical history in 22B3. For that, I am thankful.

One of the 10 BEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
This review is from: 22b3 (Audio CD)
From beginning to end I can listen to this album.
There is not one bad song on here. Holly Knight is one of the greatest song writers ever! "Hanging on a Heart Attack", "Fall Apart Golden Heart", and Sand,Stone,Cobwebs and Dust are awesome songs! But the song "Who Says" is worth the entire album alone. If anyone is interested Gene Black(guitarist)appeared on two other albums I know of. Wild Blue-No More Jinx, and Walk This Way-S/T 1988. Also for those new to this album check out Holly Knight's 1988 solo release.

80's Best Kept Secret,

I bought this on vinyl in 1986. I finally found a copy on disk !!! This album doesn't have a bad song on it. The record company did a great job putting this band together;although short lived. Holly Knight wrote some cool tunes for this record."who's on the line" is by far the best song on this album.....wait a minute; they're all great songs!!! Too bad not many people know about Device, but, they are one of the best kept secrets of the 80's.

lost love found,

I bought the tape in '86 my senior year. I was making copies for fear my original would be eaten by the tape player. I was thrilled to find the cd available. The lyrics have such deep meaning to me. The lyrics are so emotional. I fell in love with the song Hanging on a Heartattack the first time I heard it. As an 18 year old with emotions running wild I felt I could relate to over half the songs on the tape. It's an excellent cd I'm excited to purchase twice.

I was so excited to find this album! During my senior year "86" this song was on every radio while crusin the popular strip in Fort Worth, TX (Camp Bowie Blvd). I had the cassette that had much mileage that year and after. I jumped at the chance to buy the CD. Device was considered a one album wonder as they never went any further after 22B3. But everyone that remembers them and the good times appreciates this Album. Every song has great meaning and a very upbeat tune! Hanging on a Heartattack is my all time favorite as it just sends chills up my spine with the good High School memories!

80s in a Nutshell,
By The Rick (Washington, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 22b3 (Audio CD)
I first heard "Hanging on a Heart Attack" when it was a top 40 single back in the Summer of '86 and didn't think anything of Device until I rediscovered them 2 years later when Holly Knight released her solo album.
22B3 is a true representation of the '80s sound in every way, shape and form. Holly Knight is the female equivalent of Todd Rundgren. She wrote for a gazillion artits and has a pop sensibility that would make Bacharach jealous. Every song a gem and no filler. Highly recommended. |
