Forgotten war, no longer forgotten,
By Lewis Hill (Greensboro, Vermont USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: "23" Navy Air in Korea (Paperback)
Anyone with even the slightest interest in the Korean War can thoroughly enjoy the adventures that John Newburn and his crew had while John was a navy pilot in Korea during the war. Life among the pilots, the various turns of the war, the entry of the Chinese, and many of the known and unknown details of the conflict are vividly described. It is a book that can be read from beginning to end, or by indulging in the various chapters, but it is likely to be one that will be kept, and reread from time to time.

A PIECE OF HISTORY,

I loved John Newburn's new book, "23 - Navy Air in Korea." It not only gives autobiographical insight about the experiences (often thrilling) of pilots during the Korean War, but also it inserts us into the time period - the reader feels keenly the character of these pilots and the type of men they expected themselves to be, not seen as much in our current times. Mr. Newburn is a new writer - I hope to see more from him!

From someone who missed WWII,

I liked John Newburns account of his life and how he ended up as a Navy fighter pilot. It is personal and honest. There was an entire generation who missed the Big War and saw Korea as a chance to do something to stop the spread of communism. Very exciting and heartfelt. I would and have recommended this book.
