On Their Way to a Hat Trick,
By
This review is from: 8/24/00 - Jones Beach, New York (Audio CD)
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This show is the second out of three shows at Jones Beach, and continues Pearl Jam's mini-growth spurt at this location. The previous night was pretty average and unremarkable, and the local finale the following night was absolutely stupendous. This middle child of the New York residency is a very solid performance. It's definitely better than the first night, and serves as a warm up for the following show in which they pulled out all the stops. In this bootleg, the performances by all band members are solid and no-nonsense, with especially fine renditions of the rockers "Last Exit" and "Spin the Black Circle." The band is especially strong in this evening's extended jams, really getting a groove going in the extended takes on "Daughter," "I Got S**t," and "Rearviewmirror." The set list is rather average, as compared to the overall series, but there are a few rarities like "Dissident" and "Rival," both of which are played energetically tonight. If you are in the market for a few good examples of the American bootlegs, this is a solid performance, and is a good instance of a strong show. But it is overshadowed by the gig the following evening, which is one of the best in the entire tour.

This show was better than the first night, and had KRockRadio broadcasting it live. The weather was better, and so was the setlist. The version of "Daughter" followed by "It's OK" was one of the finest things I've ever heard. It ranks up there with the "Rockin' in the Free World" live from the MTV Video Awards. Good disc, good night, goobye.

PJ in Long Island 2,
This review is from: 8/24/00 - Jones Beach, New York (Audio CD)
Pearl Jam's second night in Long Island equals the first night in intensity as they rip through top notch versions of "Hail, Hail", "Spin The Black Circle" and "Last Kiss" as well as stirring versions of "Porch" & "Black". They close the show with a strong version of "Yellow Leadbetter" which in previous shows had been a bit languid, but they step it up here.

I attended this concert and, for some reason, I didn't enjoy it as much as when I listened to the CD. I think at the show the sound didn't reach me as well as I'd have liked, but on the CD, I could hear everything I missed at the concert. Best of the sets I've listened to so far; and I'm not just saying that because I went to this one.Just one note to PJ: please, PLEASE play "leash" again, somewhere, anywhere, I don't care where; just play it.

My first pearl jam concert ever, and, of course, I could afford the massive ticket price (looks like ticketmaster is laughing it's arse off right now). I ended up going with my mom, because hey, it is also a free ride. After a great set by Sonic Youth (My mom's comment: "This is F***ing art?), Pearl Jam opened with a bang, and a few of the songs from Binural. They got the classics "Courdoroy," "Daughter," and a great "Evenflow" with an eatrh shattering guitar solo by Mike. They also did no a cover of some band (well, I've never heard of them)'s song "It's Ok." Truly a moment that brought me to tears. The double euncore was a plus, but missing in action are "Rats," "Blood," "alive," and "Deep."Overall a great CD, although porbably not the best of the bootlegs. |
