5.0 out of 5 stars 24 Declassified: Storm Force
I do enjoy reading these books. They are a little more detailed and graphic than the series was allowed to be.

1.0 out of 5 stars I agree
Glad to see I wasn't the only one who didn't like this book. It was a history of every area instead of our action packed 24. I couldn't even finish reading it as I got bored. I agree with everyone else so won't duplicate. And I see he's written another one! Wish I could have done No stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Appalling writing makes this book terribly disappointing, February 7, 2008

This book is terribly disappointing, even though I am a huge 24 fan. The writing is appalling and as a result, it nearly impossible to stay interested. I had to fight the urge to copy edit and return a marked up copy to the publisher. It is filled with hyperbole, incomplete sentences and unrelenting (and often unnecessary) descriptions that could be handled far better through dialogue and action. If you are looking for a good 24 book, try any but this one as most of them are decent. With such a powerful franchise it's incredible that such poor writing would make it into print. That said, it would be an excellent example for any writing class of what not to do.

1.0 out of 5 stars Writer doesn't know Jack...., May 20, 2008

This review is from: 24 Declassified: Storm Force (Mass Market Paperback)
Like many others, I am a huge fan of the TV and book series. This book however was really bad. It doesn't appear that the writer knows anything about 24. His book lacks the real time format that the other books follow and his dialogue for Jack is ridiculous. These points along with the fact that the plot is horrible makes this a forgettable waste of time. You would do well to completely ignore this book and forget that it tries to associate itself in an otherwise great series.

1.0 out of 5 stars HERESY! Annual Book Burning August 21st, August 7, 2008
This review is from: 24 Declassified: Storm Force (Mass Market Paperback)
Wost 24 book ever. No, its not a 24 book. Its some sick author's wet dream of a boring detective story with 24 and Jack Bauer sprinkled in once every 90 pages. My friends and I burned this book in my backyard. We made a face book group about it called 24 Burning Day where we will buy a copy of this book and burn it. Some things are not supposed to be seen by mortal eyes.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst One So Far, August 2, 2010
This review is from: 24 Declassified: Storm Force (Mass Market Paperback)
There were maybe 50 pages in the middle of the book that were mildly interesting. Before that, I was hoping the book would pick up and after that I was hoping it would end soon. The plot was impossible to follow and there were no characters that were mildly interesting. I'm glad to see so many others rated this at 1 star. It was so bad, I only skimmed the last 30 pages or so.

Astro 599 "the Space Coyote" (aboard Moya in the Uncharted Territories) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 24 Declassified: Storm Force (Mass Market Paperback)
For the most part I really like the 24 novels. This one, however, was boring and long-winded. Too much descriptive detail for an action novel, and for a book about Jack Bauer, he was remarkably scarce until the end.

And about the end--it was abrupt and rather detached from the rest of the book; it didn't have any set up.

There was no depth to the characters, and the "action" was too clinical to enjoy.

All in all, this is a book you can skip.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful, February 20, 2008
This review is from: 24 Declassified: Storm Force (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first Amazon.com review I have written. And I have to side with all the other negative reviews on "Storm Force." I have read every "Declassified" novel to date and they were top notch. I'm not sure if David Jacobs read the novels the preceded his but his writing in the "real time" essense of Jack Bauer just isnt there. Fans who were used to seeing the time & location updates in the chapters dont get that luxury in this book. Like the other reviews state, there is so much back story in this book. And its very easy to get lost. There is no flow. No Bauer stream of action. Infact, this book would've done better as a Tony Almeida story. It almost wasnt worth Jack showing up. Another downfall is that this tale is more recent in the world of 24. It is post Hurricane Katrina, and post Minneapolis bridge disaster. I liked how the other novels were presented as events happening before the series on TV started. It kind of makes for a questionable timeline. Anyways... this was defintely not my favorite and I would hope that David Jacobs goes on to other projects outside the realm of 24.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst of the worst, August 13, 2008

This is, without a doubt, one of the most boring things I've read in my life. Does something happens at all? Jack Bauer spends half the time on a SUV driving around, WAITING for clues, and TALKING to suspects in a sweet way. WHAT??? Is this even Bauer we're talking about? A General escaping from an assasination attempt and what he does to escape gets two paragraphs, while the description of a hat factory gets like 10 pages. Then, if this author really is into that stupid excessive descriptive narration of the useless, at least get it right. I guess even he got bored and he got the "final hour" done in 4 lines. 4 LINES for the "thrilling" final chapter!. A hurricane was minutes away from ravaging New Orleans but turned 180 degrees at the last second and then ravaged Cuba. This happens between 4 and 5 AM. Does he even know what a hurricane is?? This is stupid and there's no way I'm gonna read anything from this author. This novel was a total waste of time and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Longest / Worst in the 24 Series - take your pick!, July 28, 2008
This review is from: 24 Declassified: Storm Force (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm a die-hard 24 fan, and am responsible for making my share of believers out of disbelievers, where Bauer is concerned. So, when these books began appearing on the shelves, naturally, I had to have mine!

I've read 3 "Declassified" adventures till date, and this book is way at the bottom (and digging!). It is by far the longest book, when in reality, had it been written using half the pages, it would perhaps have made a slightly more bearable reading.

This might perhaps be the only book in which Jack's appearances are smaller than the other characters. And to think we blind followers thought Jack was the central character in 24! Well, this book forced me to either reconsider, or trash it. No surprise what I chose.

To say nothing of the diatribe that the author goes into, from time to time. The only other book where I've read so many pages written describing a scene, without a single spoken word was Victor Hugo's classic Les Miserables in its unabridged version - and that's saying something. I recollect there was this particular piece describing the background of Beltran (one of the renegade criminals whom Jack is pursuing), which went into useless loops, as if the author wanted to put all his ideas into the single book he would ever get a chance to write.

That's it. I'm done here.
