Another Good Beginner's Book,
By
This review is from: 24-Hour Quilts (Hardcover)
Lots of great colour photographs and illustrations. A good "General Quilt-Making Directions" section. The book has 20 projects all of which are quilts of varying sizes. They could all be made in a relatively short time using the quick piecing methods described. Some nice quilts that look more difficult than they are. There are a couple of Asian inspired quilts, most are bright and contemporary. Inspiring for a beginner.

Great Book for Fast and Fun Quilts,
By Enis Jane Blizman "Sliver's Mommy" (Brownstown Twp, MI United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: 24-Hour Quilts (24 Hours) (Paperback)
I purchased this book and couldn't wait to get started on some of the quilts. I've made 2 so far: Stars and Stripes / A Garden Walk. Both quilts turned out beautiful. The instructions were not only accurate, but very easy to follow. If you like a particular quilt pattern, but don't like the sample shown in the book, some simple fabric color changes can turn a quilt you find interesting into fantastic.
This book is great for beginners, but also great for making great gifts quickly for the advanced.

I really like the 24 hour books:),
This review is from: 24-Hour Quilts (24 Hours) (Paperback)
I've been sewing for quite a few years, but not made many quilts. I really like this for its ideas. I'm presently making one of the quilts pictured on the front cover. It's the one pictured lower right with green, blue, aqua, orange & red (altho I've substituted a purple and mauve instead of the orange & red.) They're a water-colory print and really look dilicious together. I spent much of yesterday cutting the 4 and 1/2 inch strips, and a few 2 and 1/2 inch strips (for borders). I think it's going to go together quickly and easily. I'm one of the few ppl who don't yet have a rotary cutter, so I like the quick method of cutting and sewing in strips and then cutting again into blocks once the strips are sewn together. I think this book would be especially liked by others new to quilting. UPDATE: I have since gotten a rotary cutter and one of the clear rulers along with it which has made the cutting process go so much faster! I was able to cut the sewn strips of the quilt I'm working on in such a short amount of time! Still making that quilt that's on the front cover of this book. The instructions are very simple to follow. I admit I haven't done alot of quilting yet because the prospect of all the cutting, and all the complicated configurations seem daunting.
This book has 20 quilt patterns in a variety of colors and design. And now that I have a rotary cutter, I see that that makes quilt making a whole lot easier. |
