4.0 out of 5 stars Help We Can All Use, March 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: 24-Hour Turn-Around, The: Change Your Life One Hour at a Time (Paperback)
This is an easy-to-read self-help book which doesn't get bogged down with words. It is subdivided into 24 one-hour segments. The idea is to read each, perhaps one per day, and spend an hour thinking and then acting upon the suggestions.

It differs from many such books in that you can easily put it down and pick it up later without losing continuity. It does have a Christian slant, though could be useful for anyone.

If you are suffering from depression, low self-esteem, feelings of helplessness - this book is a "must read". I could not put it down. I have read it, and will again read it. I want to remember the details. I am so very happy that I ran across this book because it has changed my life. I feel ready to take on the world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good advice, biblical affirmation, and inspiring examples., June 2, 2009
This review is from: 24-Hour Turn-Around, The: Change Your Life One Hour at a Time (Paperback)
"The 24 Hour Turn-Around: Discovering the Power to Change" by Jim Hartness & Neil Eskelin is a quick, enjoyable, read with a positive message that contains good advice, biblical affirmations, and inspiring examples. Having read and reviewed many "Self-Help" books, I enjoyed this one, even if I was familiar with some of the examples the authors used in some chapters.

The 24 hours are not that you can turn your life around in one day, but rather there are 24 chapters and the authors suggest you read a chapter and meditate and think about that chapter for an hour, and take action, before going on to the next. The chapters are short, just a few pages each, but if you actually do think about the message and how it could relate to your life and circumstances, you would undoubtedly further ahead toward success.

Jim Hartness is a pastor, and as I mentioned above, there are biblical references throughout the text. These do not come across as "preachy" but rather as examples that reinforce the positive message the authors share. While Christians may enjoy these lessons the most, I do not believe those that do not share this faith will be distracted or feel like the authors are trying to convert them. The use of biblical examples was done very well in a way to help everyone, regardless of faith.

Some of the chapters, or hours to ponder, include: A New Look at Your Goals, Bend Without Breaking, Winning by Quitting, How to Reorder Your Day, Your Newborn Body, The Look of a Winner, The Power of Persistence, and Celebrate a Grand New You!

I agree with Zig Zigler that motivation is like bathing. Neither lasts, so that is why he recommends each daily. Just as we bathe or shower each day, it is good to fill our minds with positive thoughts and examples to help us stay motivated and on the right path. "The 24 Hour Turn-Around" contains such a message. It is positive, contains good examples, provides great advice, and if you decide to act on the principles they share, you can turn your life around, or if you are already on the right track, it will keep your motivation up to continue to succeed. Recommended for anyone who needs a positive message and encouraging advice toward succeeding in life.

I LOVED this book and bought more copies to pass out to family and friends. Change doesn't happen until You are ready and I like the way this book makes it obvious that good things are waiting for us if we just choose to change. It's easy to ready, easy to implement when you are willing. I'm certain I will buy more of these for others.

5.0 out of 5 stars more than "self-help", November 9, 2005
By

This book is encouraging and inspirational without being cheesy and overly smarmy like some stereotypical perceptions of self-help books. It really helps to allow understanding of self, and helps to sort out what it is that may be holding you back in your work or personal life.

The messages and chapters are practical and well-written, and while the words will result in deep personal epiphanies, the book is light enough to be read over and over again. Thoroughly enjoyable.
