Book Description

May 28, 2002

No matter what your age or health, you can improve in just 24 hours -- with increased energy, stamina, and libido; elevated mood; more fat-burning enzymes; and youthful vitality

In her years as exercise physiologist and trainer to the stars at the exclusive Mauna Lani Resort in Hawaii, Jay Williams, Ph.D., has counseled thousands of clients -- and has learned what works. Now she shares her experience and inspiring message in this groundbreaking book, offering eight Total Life Changes that work together to help you improve your health, lose weight, and reduce your biological age. And she provides proven "jump-start" techniques that will give you results within 24 hours.

Jay starts her program with innovative motivational tools to keep you focused, no matter what your diet or exercise history. Then, armed with a new attitude, you'll become your own personal trainer. With Jay's unique H.E.A.R.T. workout you'll lose weight, increase strength, and reduce stress without the aging side effects of high-intensity exercise.

The whole foods in Jay's Definition Diet will help you nourish your hormones, body, cardiovascular system, muscles, and brain -- so you reduce body fat, have fewer mood swings, speed up your metabolism, and remain youthful and strong at any age.

Everyone knows that we should drink a lot of water, but did you know that it's an antiaging must? By following a personal hydration schedule, you'll reduce hunger between meals, have more energy, increase your muscles' ability to burn fat, and improve your body's removal of toxins.

The trendy attitude toward "a glass of wine a day" for good health may actually be hurting your body's ability to burn fat. Jay helps you understand the facts surrounding the "French paradox." And she shows how antiaging sleep can boost your immune function and even help you drop unwanted pounds.

With the discrepancies in popular opinion about hormone replacement therapy, how do you decide what's right for you? Jay presents the studies that show that artificial hormones increase your risk of breast or uterine cancer and may further increase your risk of heart disease. Learn how to balance your hormones naturally to prevent the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause.

Finally, no life change is complete without the antiaging benefits of stress reduction. Learn how to use yoga and meditation to protect your body from the ravages of stress -- today and every day.

It's never too late to make a life change. With her eight important Total Life Changes, delicious recipes, spa secrets, and inspiring stories of people who have made dramatic changes in their lives, Jay Williams helps you start now -- for a lean and healthy body for the rest of your life.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

From her home base at a spa in Hawaii, Williams claims to have helped thousands of clients transform themselves physically, mentally and emotionally by adopting her mindbody program. Eight Total Life Changes (TLCs) are the basis for Williams's plan, which is focused at women. Among these steps are: "Master your mood and motivation," "Become your own personal trainer with the H.E.A.R.T. workout," "Balance your hormones naturally" and "Destress and halt aging with mind-body mediation." Readers are urged to drink water, eat breakfast, look to light, exercise and meditate, eat hormone-friendly foods, snack smartly and avoid alcohol. Williams offers many motivational tidbits to keep readers focused on their ultimate aim good health and happiness. While more low-key than some exercise gurus like Denise Austin, the book is nevertheless filled with encouraging, if tired, statements aimed at motivating readers: when advising readers to clean out their pantries and donate "unhealthy" food to the Salvation Army, the author says repeatedly, "You are what you eat. Nutrition defines your age... your health... your body." Her inclusion of medical statistics to support her advice makes the recommendations seem that much more sound. Readers wanting to take charge first of their bodies and secondarily of their emotions will find this book helpful, though not original.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing weight loss and anti-aging guide, June 15, 2002

This review is from: The 24-Hour Turnaround: The Formula for Permanent Weight Loss, Antiaging, and Optimal Health--Starting Today (Hardcover)
24 Hour Turnaround is 8 books in one! It covers every base of weight loss, fitness, aging, hormones, sleep, diet, motivation, meditation, yoga and more. Easy to read (but includes the research if you want to learn more). Provides easy to follow steps to start to change your life immediately. I have never been so motivated and able to stay on a program. Finally exercise makes sense! The author gives you an exercise perscription that makes exercise easy - not painful. The Definition Diet teaches us how to go and find food we like to eat instead of someone elses favorite food. Most importantly I learned how and why these changes will effect my life. I have lost 16 pounds and I feel great. My entire family is on the Turnaround!
