1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of Time
Unlike Guy Ritchie's films, which seem to come together as the plot builds, this film falls apart as the story progresses. The characters are not convincing at all (horrid horrid acting). Some of the roles don't make any sense...The jokes are lame. It does not have that sense of tounge in cheek hipness that rolls through Lock Stock and Snatch.

With no attatchment...

With no attatchment to any of the characters in the story, the plot unfolds rather tepidly, since all of the acton is just redundancy. The gangsters don't even look intimidating, Bubbles (the womanizing sex fiend) looks more like a woussy effminate disco clown, Tony the american mobster looks and sounds more like someone who wants to be a gangster, rather than a James Gandolfini type. The main villian is almost laughable and his serious monologue moments (why he uses a sword, for instance) seem so silly that it would have been better if he didn't talk at all.

As more plot twists are thrown in at the end, the plot holes actually get alot worse, rather than come together....

I only bought this because I was high and it looked like a cool video game thing on the cover. Unfortunitally it was one of the worst movies ever, but what the hell I'll just break it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hong Kong on the Themse, March 9, 2011
This review is from: 24 Hours in London (DVD)
It is hard writing comment on a law budget movie with action around action of which all personages are partly-police, partly-crims hunting each other and mercilessly blooding any on their ways while a ringleader tries getting a rid of his-assassin-to-be witnessing the massacre.

Love-lines and sex-for-sale motive have been deployed.
To a reviewer, a general impression is a typical Hong-Kong style movie with correction on modern UK ethnicity.

3.0 out of 5 stars double-crosses to infinity, July 25, 2009

I would call this "imitation Guy Ritchie," but I don't know if this film came out before his two most famous works. Oops! I also don't know if he directed this or had some role in its creation. Still, if you like crime thrillers in the UK with a racially and sexually diverse cast, then you'll recognize his style in this.
I would say that in the US interracial couples are still taboo, which is a shame in a land that bases itself on freedom. I'd say most American films don't show interracial couples that often. However, this film had about three interracial pairs. Perhaps the British are more tolerant and supportive than on this side of the pond.
There are a lot of double-crosses in this film. On the one hand, it gives the viewers surprises. I also wonder if this is the East Asian influence on this work. After awhile, however, the double-crosses get confusing. You almost grow to expect them. It starts to make no sense, and not even be important, who lives or who is aligned with whom.
This movie didn't knock my socks off, but I didn't want to smash it with a hammer either. If you would like an underacheiving "Snatch," then here it is.

If you have seen either "Hard Men"(Ross Boatman, Vincent Regan, Lee Ross), or "Lock Stock And Two smoking barrels"(Jason Stratham-of'the Transpoter', Jason Flemyng-of 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'), Snatch(wich is kind of like ...2 smoking barrels 2{withsome of the same actors playin different rolls})You will Know that them Brits' can knock up some super classic movies!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Funny, sexy and clever. Three things this movie isn't., June 22, 2003

This review is from: 24 Hours in London (DVD)
24 HOURS IN LONDON is set in London (obviously) in 2009, where a sexy female doctor is seducing men and then drugging them to steal their organs (Not THAT one!) for sale on the black market along with (of course) drugs. Her trail is pursued by a pair of corrupt police officers whose idea of fun is blowing things up. Ironic, considering this movie comes within a hair's breadth of being a certified BOMB.
Written and directed by Alexander Finbow, 24 HOURS IN LONDON attempts to be flashy; but for half its duration the movie's mis-en-scene looks like it was purposely designed to make viewers feel like they're intoxicated- and if you genuinely ARE while watching this, then lucky you. Finbow's script appears to have been written just to please himself, because not many others will be. Add to this a soundtrack loaded with thumping techno music that amounts to nothing more than a 90 minute assault on the eardrums, and the only real organ stolen is the viewer's brain. It only gets 2 stars because I've seen far worse (Ever seen NAIL GUN MASSACRE or ANDY WARHOL'S TRASH?). The DVD also includes the trailer. Watch that first in order to discern if your really want to subject yourself to the torture of watching this movie. My "funny, sexy, clever" comment comes from some UK reviewer whose comments are on the DVD cover. It's probably safe to assume that Finbow blew a large chunk of the movie's budget paying this critic to say something nice about his movie. If he was paying ME I'd take the money, but I'd still trash his movie. I'm one of those guys who can't give anything other than his honest opinion, sorry to say. There is however, a memorable bit where a guy gets acid thrown in his face, resulting in a gruesome R-rated melting scene even the G-rated Wicked Witch Of The West would be proud of.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, May 19, 2003
This review is from: 24 Hours in London (DVD)
If you're willing to buy a story where two badly armored crooks invade a police stattion and take on numerous heavily armed, heavily armored cops, then you might actually enjoy the movie.

The plot is terrible, with more holes than the average bullet-filled corpse. Acting is also terrible, with 'Bubbles' being exceptionally poor.

The basic storyline is that a London crimeboss is taking out the competition to ensure a merger of his 'company' with a big US crime syndicate. After the killing of a rival in a park, a witness survives, and the hunt is on.

On first glance, this sounds like a Guy Ritchy or Tarantino plot, but where those directors manage to create exceptional dialogue and bizarre plot twists, this one just lacks. It starts off rather bad, and goes downhill from there.

Stay away from this one, unless you have a serious knack for random violence and gore.

1.0 out of 5 stars Gross Missuse of Firearms, March 4, 2003
This review is from: 24 Hours in London (DVD)
The first gunfight in this movie is so painful, it was a migraine headache to watch the rest. There is even a karate scene after that which looks like amatuer wrestling at best. I somehow doubt this is camp. God help us all if you decide to buy this.
